TheIrek666 If you look after the monkey properly it can have a longer life span than in the wild, and if you feed it good, give it a lot of space to exercise, show it lots of love and care than it will be happy. What the difference between a monkey and a dog as a pet? dogs were not always domesticated. monkeys are pretty much as smart as a dog and very cute.

sorankurdi I think you'll find monkeys are a lot of work. The big difference is these animals have hands. They can grab anything in your house or should I say 'destroy' everything in your house. Also, they're not as easily sociable as dogs. They don't just warm to strangers at the drop of a hat. These things are used to swinging through the tree tops are you able to replicate that in a huge outdoor enclosure? It's not the 50's anymore, spider monkeys should not be pets.

They don't tell you how traumatized they become when many that they get at zoos have been seized during illegal importation and smuggling after they have had their mother killed while they are still clinging to her back when the poachers have to pry the screaming baby's hands from the Mum so they can try to sell them. Many in sanctuaries and zoos came due to seizure due to the illegal pet trade or owner's abandonment due to their unsuitability as a pet whether as a baby or a newly maturing adult. It has been illegal since the 1970's to import primates to the US for pets so they endure an underground market without controls and protections for their welfare where the majority of babies die before arrival.
