That ending is too funny. Matt never ceases to amaze me at just how quick his wit is. I use to avoid watching these clips cause I didn't want the mental picture Conan created of him being a banjo wielding hipster adorned in plaid and artisnal suspenders ruined. I eventually got over the disappointment.

I definitely would have found Conan funny at 10-11. A lot of the jokes may have gone over my head but I think we underestimate how intelligent kids can be at that age and how much they can comprehend, especially now because of social media. I saw my first episode of Conan when I was 13 because he featured a band I listen to, I didn’t pay attention to much of the show because I didn’t really care to be honest. I started watching more of his stuff in high school and watching old clips of Late Night got me through those first few bad weeks of lockdown.

Hey, I first got into Conan when I was 12. That's the right age to start appreciating witty and self-deprecating humor, because it's the age when one's reputation in social hierarchies - the dynamic that those jokes often play with - first becomes very important. It's also the age that kids often first get into Monty Python, They Might be Giants, Kurt Vonnegut, Mark Twain, etc. You're in good company!

I learned most of my English from watching TV with subtitles. Most of what I watched was American movies, TV shows (like SNL), WB cartoons and British comedy sketch shows like Monty Python and Faulty Towers. So the transition to watching Conan in the mid 90's was smooth. I was around 17 when I first started watching Conan. I am now 45.

Now that I think about it, I think I was about in that 11/13 age range when I started watching conan back in the early 90s. Not every night but some school nights my ma would let me stay up to watch Conan and The Kids in the Hall when I was that age. But kids these days also seem pretty in tune with podcasts the way we were with radio back then so it totally makes sense that kids are listening to Conan.

I was a Conan fan at that age. I think people tend to vastly underestimate the intellectual capacity of 10-13 year olds-- they are often, not always, but often, very self-aware and educated. This is not the same as being emotionally developed, and these kids *are* still kids, but I remember loving a lot of 'adult-oriented' media when my parents weren't looking sincerely and thinking hard about it.
