It's hard to tell where the truth ends and where the make believe begins, but it's easy to believe that at some point William Shatner, Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise, really was living out of a pickup truck camper going from appearance to appearance. It kind of reminds me of the characters from the film Galaxy Quest, except perhaps even worse off. It's interesting to think about how a celebrity can go from fame to obscurity, and then back to fame based partially on the nostalgia of a maturing audience.

He's of Jewish ancestry as was the oldest woman that ever lived (to 122). With all the inbreeding a number got longevity genes and a few lucky ones like the French Jewish woman get a set of longevity genes from both parents. If it is the genes and not just random luck, you are essentially aging slower, so at 70 you might have the average energy and ability of most 50 year olds. It's a big advantage but even among Jewish people who are more likely to have the gene odds are they have a single copy so probably just live a couple of years longer than average with the normal health problems as they age. I suspect if they checked his DNA he got it from both sides and thus is not only living long but is youthful as well.
