Its also very good experience for these troops, they gain knowledge about engineering works, construction and improve skills with tools. I believe that every military of every country should use its soldiers for these types of things and involve them in more construction work, mainly homeland defense forces. Its usefull to have skilled people for any kind of natural or other disaster or even for some big projects if more workers are needed. Millitary has better cohesion and great logistics too which can be useful. Also its better for them to do real work rather than endless drills, stationed at the same location for moths and when a person leaves the army, he has more skills for civilian jobs and can transition easy.
