I once wrote a lot of stories, years ago. I have one titled "music's gonna take you home tonight". Now listening to this first song I realize where I got that title from. (Also after all those years I got up on stage to him last weekend. My biggest dream came true and I'm so thankful for him to take me on that stage)

The Mightey Pop! The man is a genius, one of the greatest of all time. He's a spectacular performer. The best concerts I have ever seen were Iggy shows. I don't think I ever paid more than 25 bucks for a ticket and have been front row, center a dozen times for blitzodelic eruptions of pure pleasure. Iggy, you done good, man.
@salvadorolmedo565 жыл бұрын
Everything you say is true. I have seen several concerts of Iggy, the first one I attended was in May 1978.I did not have the opportunity to see The Stooges live, a shame!!.
@garfieldfarkle5 жыл бұрын
@@salvadorolmedo56 I missed the Stooges, too. I first saw him in '77 with the Ramones and another band opening in Baltimore, Maryland. I would've been front row, center for the "Kiss My Blood" concert, except I broke up with my girlfriend and didn't go to Paris. I have never been to a concert by any other performer where I thought the entire place was about to explode the way it was at so many Iggy Pop concerts. One thing I like about him is he has put together so many excellent bands to tour with. I think it is really cool he is so popular around the world and I get to share such pleasant memories with you. Thanks a lot for posting this, Salvador!
@salvadorolmedo565 жыл бұрын
You are welcome. The performance of Baltimore, Maryland (supported by The Ramones), was included in the Lust for Life Tour 1977, October 17. The musicians were: Iggy Pop (Vocals), Stacey Heydon (Guitar), Scott Thurston (Guitar, Keyboards), Hunt Sales (Drums) and Tony Sales (Bass). I think at that time Iggy shared an apartment in West Berlin with David Bowie, in the central district of Schöneberg. Very close to the apartment was the house where German-born actress Marlene Dietrich was born. Best regards.

Salvador, I see your reply in my Notifications but not on this page. The concert in Baltimore was at the Baltimore Civic Center, and there was a large curtain cutting the arena in half. I doubt there was a thousand people there. A third act on the bill was a regional rock band called Facedancer. As I recall, tickets were $13.50. David Bowie appeared at some concerts, playing keyboards an not speaking to the press in order to keep the spotlight on Iggy. Bowie did not appear at that show. The venue took no chances with security. There was no room to dance down front and they kept people out of the aisles and in the folding metal chairs that were bolted together.. One of the funniest things I ever saw at a concert happened during one of the first songs when everyone was thinking of rushing the stage. I had an aisle seat in row 13 and some young punk went running up the aisle at full speed. Two tall security guards facing the rear of the hall stood up and as this guy went flying between them, they hooked his arms under the armpits, lifting him straight up off the floor, and they walked up the aisle toward the back of the hall. The guy they were carrying's legs were still churning in a running motion even though they were not touching the ground. It was like something in a cartoon. There were no stage dives or self destruction, and Iggy seemed intent on putting on a good, well-paced rock and roll show. Two other things I recall from that tour. One was an appearance on the Dinah Shore Show, where he did a song and this polite, gracious Southern lady did not quite know what to do with him during the interview portion of the show. The other was in one of the books, perhaps "I Need More," he related that after the concert in Baltimore, he took a very large woman back to the hotel room that night.

Garfield, thanks for your description of the Iggy Pop concert in Baltimore. At the end of the seventies they were still putting chairs for those attending rock & roll concerts. In the concert that I saw, just eight months later, the chairs were not fastened and flew through the air to end up crashing on the floor of the Sports Pavilion. The show I attended, on May 15, 1978, belonged to the TV Eye Tour 1978 / European Tour and the musicians who accompanied Iggy were the components of the Sonic's Rendezvous Band: Scott Thurston (Keyboard and Guitar), Scott Asheton (Drums and former colleague of the time of The Stooges), Fred 'Sonic' Smith (Guitar and former guitar of MC5, had not yet married Patti Smith) and Gary Rasmussen (Bass, who wore a long hair similar to Leon Russell). The appearance of Iggy Pop on stage was a flash of primitive energy, a liberated beast that unleashed such violence on stage as I had rarely seen in another rock & roll concert. We were also around 1000 people and the price could be around $ 11, to the currency exchange of that time. The songs I remember he performed were Penetration, TV Eye, Endles Sea, Five for One, Curiosity, Girl Girls Girls, Gimme Danger, Lust for Life, Dirt, I Wanna Be your Dog, I Gotta Right and Little Doll. At the end of Gimme Danger he jumped and fell off the stage but immediately recovered and jumped back to where he had fallen, pure primitive energy. It seems to me that when traveling by bus to perform in the different European cities included in this tour, he learned to play the harmonica.

These artists feed off the energy from the audience. I feel bad for Iggy getting no feedback. In L.A. back in the day we were to cool to clap. He even tried Louie Louie. Still no reaction. I would be wooing n clapping out of respect. Kinda rude.

@@shepmathe He's seen the best & worst any audience could throw at him & though the crowd there is lame Iggy does not really care. Great to see him do something like this & I've seen him many times in the 70s & 80s when he would have never done a fine acoustic set on his own & a mellow one at that. Such an icon & a pro. They sure messed up the title on I wanna Be Your Dog ,it's Dog not Doll. LOl
