Police departments need to know the difference between car meets and side shows. The car meet was advertised openly to support a new business, side shows don't advertise at all or to support any business. This was a daytime grand opening for a new business which seems like that area needs some new life in that otherwise desolate looking strip mall. The Concord police blocking the parking lot and basically threatening the business owner with fines for having an "unpermitted event" was an OVERREACTION! If they looked at the car meet up flyer they would have realized that it wasn't going to be a "side show". If they were that paranoid why not just have a police officer or two show up to understand and learn what a car meet up is. The Concord police showed not only their ignorance, but their unwillingness to understand and learn. This is a good reason for community policing so the police, residents and businesses can learn and be each others' support not make more people more wary of police or for police overreacting. Didn't realize businesses needed a permit to have a simple grand opening. Good luck to all businesses in every city and especially new businesses for years of success and stability.

Good luck to the business owner but if you’ve ever worked in a plaza where these car meets are set up it gets crazy really fast and impedes the surrounding businesses. It’s basically the same people who set up the sideshows; every plaza that hosts these car meets for any extended period of time winds up installing speed bumps and other traffic controls to try to limit speeding, cruising and congestion that winds up happening. Not to mention the sideshows and sometimes gunshots in the neighboring intersections.

Concord PD remains the same. Back in the late 70's-early 80's, they would stop and hassle any group of teenage boys they saw out in public. They're obviously still just as petty. Glad I got out. I feel sorry for my classmates who stayed,
