I remember when the Concorde landed in Providence in 1988. In fact today is the anniversary of the visit. It never came back as it wasn't supposed to.

You know what is crazy? Concorde first flew in 1969 the same year man first went the moon. Then in 1976 Concorde flew passengers for the first time only a year before the birth of Star Wars.

I was a passenger on Concorde in 1992. It was a fabulous and unprecedented flight. I'm sad to say, I woke up and it was just a dream

Good video, I really enjoyed it. It really demonstrates the sense of excitement that surrounded the launch of this great airplane. At 0:46, I hope the crew of that DC-10 told the passengers on the right hand side to look out of their windows to catch a glimpse of it!

@@MrDaiseymay You're right there, I hadn't thought of that! It makes me wonder if some of the passengers on that ill-fated Concorde watched that DC-10 taking off, as they were taxiing to the runway themselves.

Concord 2.0 better faster and economical, hopefully British and France could bring her back, I would fly on it, will probably work for many months but it would be priceless....

Took off fine until it hit a piece of metal that fell off a badly maintained American plane.

@@paulm2467 Sadly, it was the Concorde that had been "badly maintained"; an undercarriage spacer bar having been omitted after a major overhaul. This enabled the Concorde to veer towards the edge of the runway and have its encounter with the piece of DC-10 that caused its destruction. Mistakes by the flight crew didn't help. There's a video about this somewhere on KZbin.

@@bobswan6196 sadly you're wrong, the debris from the Continental DC10 hit the tyre and broke off a chunk of tyre that flew up hit the full fuel tanks and caused a pressure wave that ruptured No. 5 tank this reduced power as fuel caught fire and caused 2 of the engines to lose power, the plane was already at a speed that was considered to be too dangerous to abort, they managed to take off but were losing power and airspeed rapidly and then with engines surging and losing power the pilots tried to level the aircraft but stalled and crashed. There were a couple of minor maintenance issues and a slight overweight problem, (810 kg, nothing significant and well within design tolerance), which caused the plane to take off a little further down the runway than normal but this would have had no effect if they hadn't hit the debris from the American airplane.

@@paulm2467 I've just been trying to find a video interview with Capt Hutchinson but can't find it at the moment. Meanwhile, I've found a couple of reports to support what I was trying to say. The first is a KZbin sound recording of Capt Hutchinson outlining his views on the Concorde crash; the second is an Observer report along the same lines. I'll try and find other reports that I found a few years ago now; I fear someone may have removed them but I'll keep looking. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGmnd4x9htZkhNk www.theguardian.com/world/2001/may/13/davidrose.focus
