Beautiful. I grew up listening to this kind of music and, unfortunately, have lost my faith completely. Listening to it made me cry like an abandoned child and so, if any of you can spare a moment and say a prayer for me, I would be very grateful. Thank you.

I have been where you are- feeling so far from my roots, and weeping unexplainably when I have heard music that draws my spirit home. I don’t know if you are still seeking, but today I am praying for you to be aware that He chose you and loves you. God bless you!

I don't think I've ever heard a more beautiful version of "Nearer, My God, To Thee" ever. I almost couldn't breathe at the end, it was like I couldn't get air. Just amazing.

Reminds me of the time we sang with the King’s Singers there organized in the same manner in the Memorial Auditorium…an awe inspiring experience.

Amazing! That brought tears to my eyes! Just the version I was looking for! I live in Utah, and the Mormons here have plenty of pretty versions of this song available, but they are all nice and gentle and soft. I wanted something emotional and powerful, and this is what I was looking for! Thank you so much Concordia Choir! You did this song better than the Mormon Tabernacle Choir could!

Being a huge football fan and former college player, it is great to say that the most memorable thing about this college's homecoming was this rendition. When alums can't wait to come back to sing with you, you have heritage!

They can stand toe to toe with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir anytime! Great! Wonderful! My 70 year old crackling voice did it best to keep up, but I need more training! Lots more! -Jeep- USN. Ret.

Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to thee! E’en though it be a cross That raiseth me. Still all my song shall be Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to thee! Though like the wanderer, The sun gone down, Darkness be over me, My rest a stone, Yet in my dreams I’d be Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to thee! There let the way appear, Steps unto heav’n; All that thou sendest me, In mercy giv’n; Angels to beckon me Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to thee! Or if, on joyful wing Cleaving the sky, Sun, moon, and stars forgot, Upward I fly, Still all my song shall be Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to thee!

@sweetcharlie63 There were approx. 250 singers, all alumni of The Concordia Choir. The choir rehearses for 8-10 hours per week, during their tenure in the choir all members are required to take voice lessons. It is this training, tradition and level of performance that allows the conductor to "control" all these voices.

Another awful example of garish modernism jazzing up our beautiful hymns. "Arrangers" of the World - realize that people do NOT LIKE what you are doing to our hymns. Go peddle your musical arranging wares on a street corner somewhere, but LEAVE OUR CHURCH MUSIC ALONE !!!!
@maestroz254 жыл бұрын
pravoslavnik as I look at the comments this work has received over the years(I posted it ten years ago) I don’t think there is any consensus to your view. These anthems are arranged for concert and educational settings. They breath a new life into popular hymns of the Church.
