This brings back so many childhood memories. I grew up in North Philly during the early to mid 70's. My Grandmother lived on Judson St. off 24th and Cambia. The stables were right down 24th street close to the train tracks. I remember sitting on the porch and watching the the guys ride the horses down the street. They would always stop so we could pet them. Grandma knew several of the riders. They would hang out at the speakeasy and some of the Bars on the corner......

@@philiphempsey9127 The ones that I remember are long gone. But the stables over in the Strawberry Mansion (the north side of Fairmount Park for those not familiar with Philly) are still there. I heard the lease was up on the stables and there is a gofundme to help save them. Unfortunately because of gentrification coming up from the Art Museum area and now Ridge Ave, I don't know if they can be saved. Homes that were around $20k when I was growing up are now in the $600k range.....

@@lindabb7064 Much of the modern perception of "cowboy culture" is WILDLY inaccurate to history. Whites were an extreme minority in said culture. Depends where you are from. Being from Texas and going trail rides, it’s something I saw all the time. Historically, it’s taught here. From the Buffalo Soldiers to probably the most famous lawman/cowboy ever Bass Reeves. It’s nice to see an film focus on the fletcher street cowboys. What is sad is that the land was sold and is slated for development where the used for the horses grazing.

YES ! The fact that the orginal first cowboys were black men AND women. Trying to escape from oppression. But somewhere along the lines cowboys became white. Entertainment and tv showed white men "cowboys" going to war with native americans. When the orginal cowboys would steal from racist white people and give there loot to certian native american tribes. They basically like robinhood. If you look at media even to this day "good" cowboys where white hats while " bad" cowboys where black hats. Which is just another thing that racist came up with.

This is something the world should know about. There stories are powerful and should always be told.

I seen it back in i think 2019 at a screening. In the fall/ winter in December of fall of that year. Its like the promo would sell it more if they included "Method Man" in the trailers. He did good with the film "How High" and "The Sitter". Good luck, I hope the film does well. Like "The Shawshank Redemption". It was poor in theatre but on home video it became a success. Maybe the subject matter wouldnt appeal to those on a date they thought. However, a great film is a great film and "Elba" should help to hit a home run with it.

Three scenes in this movie should get Idris his Oscar : 1. When He puts that boy on his horse and the look he gave him before his son runs off. 2. Is right after that scene, he explains to his son how he got his name. 3. When he is washing his son in the stable. The director knew how and when and where to deliver and place the emotional content, Idris executed those scenes to perfection. Well Done my man.

I LOVE this movie. There are almost no feel-good movies like this one. It is a totally different story, but it reminds me of The Outsiders. Kids could watch this and relate to the survivors. I LOVE that. I also LOVE that there is care-taking and it is not just about the newest shoes. But there's a little about shoes. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT.

I had a horse for 3 years. He was SO Intelligent he could go to the store pick up a paper & almost read it to me. One day I gave him $100 to go get some items from the store. 1 hour ,2 hours ,3 hours past. I went looking for him & he was dancing around this female/ mare 4 blocks over. I said Jock, uve never done this before buddy, he said "Yeah & Uve never gave me the money before either...."

When I was a kid in the 1970s my father was a blacksmith - he'd shoe horses for the California Rodeo. All of his friends were ranchers, bikers and/or cowboys. He had one black cowboy buddy named Elvis. To this day Elvis was the coolest dude I ever met...just friendly as hell and gave zero f**ks.
