Try sealing the wood pieces, before using as a template as wood is sticky due to moisture in clay. Dust the wood template with cornstarch before pushing into clay. That should help with the sticking.

So at what point do you shape to the ball before it dries???
@artsandcraftchica3 ай бұрын
I’m sorry I don’t understand your question, what do you mean?
@terrijuanette486 Жыл бұрын
I'd love to see what would happen with a 'dry cast' for your details. It's pretty simple. In place of your wet cement mixture use only the dry (powder) cement for putting into your moulds. After screeing (with a straight edge to make it smooth), using a spray bottle with a relatively fine mist, mist it for about 2-5 seconds. Let it sit (for out doors you let it sit for an hour). You're not trying to wet all the cement at once. An hour later do it again. Do this 2-3 times then let it sit until it's completely dry.

They are wonderful. How much would you sell these for. They are labor intensive....your thoughts?
@artsandcraftchica7 ай бұрын
Good question. Yes, they are very labor intensive and unfortunately most people don’t appreciate the work that goes into making something like this. I would personally ask around $350 a piece

what type of cement s used for projects what is smooth concrete?
@artsandcraftchica Жыл бұрын
I used cement all rapid set. However if you want a much more stronger product then go to the description and look at the concrete recipe that I have listed. It is a much stronger mix that will withstand years of harsh weather. Good luck and thank you for watching!

Just wondering what kind of sealer to use after? I've seen similar videos and they usually seal them to help protect them from weather. I love where ita very cold and snows in the winter and guessing I would have to put them inside to prevent damage
@artsandcraftchica8 ай бұрын
Use this recipe for a long lasting concrete that will not crack. Your project will last 10 years in any Weather 10 cups of Portland cement 5 cups of fine sand 2 cups of Metakaolin Acrylic concrete bonding liquid- find in Home Depot- (1part acrylic 3 parts water)

Is sand not necessary?
@artsandcraftchica Жыл бұрын
There are many different types of mixing recipes some include sand and fiber or fortifying elements. However I went with cement all and so far they are holding up nicely.
@lillianreid1878 Жыл бұрын
Sand helps add strength, which isn't necessary for decor. The flowers might see damage if it's rolled over solid surfaces, but not using sand gives a smoother finish.

I don't understand what kind of cement or concrete to buy. I don't live in portland. He says use portland concrete. Then later he says cement. Which is it, concrete or cement, or are they interchangeable? Plus, there are so many variables of the product, its making my head spin. Please help!
@artsandcraftchica Жыл бұрын
You can use cement all. Is a product that you can find in any Home Depot. Portland cement is a type of cement that’s sold in Home Depot as well. That is the name of the product. It has nothing to do with the city of Portland if that’s what you are referring to. I hope my answer helped you.
