Hello sir.. I'm from the Philippines is it normal that our road construction here has no metal bar not like in your video.. is the contractor doing all the road projects substandard by not putting some metal bar? After they compact the soil they just put concrete.. Looking forward in your response..
@SleepydogConstruction7 ай бұрын
Concrete surfaces that support large trucks, heavy machinery, or steady traffic need concrete rebar reinforcement, and any structural concrete, like walls in buildings, should definitely include rebar. Rebar is a metal bar that is used to help increase the tensile strength of concrete. As a result, it helps concrete structures withstand tensile, bending, torsion, and shearing loads. I hope this answers your question.

A hand cranked screed. Oh my goodness those old boys put in some work. Luckily I just put the grade stakes in. The control was tied into horizontal and vertical bench marks.

This was an excellent video! I work doing residential flatwork, driveways, walkways, patios, etc. I'm always curious as to how bigger projects get done because I know how much hard work goes into our projects and how quickly the cement can start to set, especially on a hot day. I've seen the city workers spray that white liquid on their work and never knew what it was for. Could you tell me what that curing compound is called? Thanks again for the upload.

Any advantages of going with a thicker layer of concrete? Or will the strength come from a deeper base layer? Also is fiber mesh used or will that potentially cut tires?
@SleepydogConstruction3 жыл бұрын
With all concrete most of the strength comes from the rebar. If the concrete is thicker that 12 inches it would need a double mat of rebar.

so what is exactly that white material that prevents concrete to make cracks on the surface while drying itselfs?

Couldnt they use a pumper truck to put it down?
@phildcrow3 жыл бұрын
They could, but it would be impractical in this application. Concrete pumps are expensive to rent and make a big mess so if you can avoid it, you should. In most linear applications like a roadway, the concrete is placed as you saw in the video.

Well....I can tell you one thing about live lime.....even dry for years it re emulsifies itself with water....so much for a safe road base.....any other countries do the same process ....but with portland cement.....surely not with lime.....especially on top of clay.....
@SleepydogConstruction3 жыл бұрын
We use Portland cement on sandy soils.
@jeanchardonnay56273 жыл бұрын
@@SleepydogConstruction What part of " LIVE LIME RE EMUSLSIFY ITSELF WITH THE CONTACT OF WATER" you dont understand ?..... Clay stop the water from penetrating further down...so the water will sit exactly where your lime/soil mix is......that's where you supoosed to use portland cement..... Sandy soil drain the water down.....that's where you supposed to use lime...because lime is flexible....portland cement will crack.... Thanks for the information on this video. Where would you go if you were to die today? Seek the Lord and saviour Jesus Christ before it's too late. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Hell is real and Heaven is also real. You don't want to spend an eternity in Hell torment without God. The only way to escape Hell is to follow Jesus Christ our Lord and saviour. Study the KJV Bible to know more and pray and seek until you find Jesus. Don't delay tomorrow might be too late. You are not promised even the next minute. Do it now

@FirstLast-se7gj3 жыл бұрын
@@SuperRashead ha no it doesn't. Sounds like you are driving on grooved concrete or some with a lot of rock in it. Good concrete is smoother with less variation in elevation than you'll get with asphalt. Concrete won't warp under the weight in heat like asphalt either.
