It's just a harmonizing backing track, most artists use them. The main vocal he is actually singing, you can tell specially because he makes a small mistake between 2:30 and 2:33, the note doesn't quite reach when he sings "climbed" - I mean, that's just nitpicking, because it's 99.99% perfect anyway, but it shows it's a live performance :)
