Here I show you how to make a 4-part mold in fibre glass to be able to get all the angles out of a round speaker with the front baffle and even the bassreflex port.
All built out of an industrial floor lamp that painters use in big constructions.
I just saw that shape of it and thought that would be great for my smaller Sphere speakers.(video of that in my channel)
The kevlar cone speaker is an unknown cheap kind from Amazon, but the speaker this was intended for is the Monacor SPH-210 8”.

Inspiring me to consider clay garden pottery for my next speaker building. Thank you for the video.

Thanks man! I was just looking for some kind of sphere I could make a mold of and asked around . Because round shapes gets No standing waves inside, so it is very strong and ”dead” and perfect for a Loudspeaker :)
@datdudeinred

@@mackemacchiato3238 yeah but only needed for tweeters & upper mids as wavelengths at lower freq are way too long to form a standing wave inside a normal enclosure. Thats why most subs are square shaped. & that b&w 800 series has that tweeter enclosure.

@@datdudeinred tweeters doesn’t need any enclosure at all. Only a baffle to spread the sound. A sphere shape is stronger than a rectangular. Hence eggs beeing strong but beeing thin. So, doing a round shape save volume but still stronger = resonance free than a box.

I used a special techinique to pour and reinforce the concrete and this is not an instructional video. More inspiring. Since it would be weird if Volvo did videos how to do the EV Polestar car… sort of…

Phenomenal build. Also, how does it sound? Is there any difference in sound when compared to wooden/MDF enclosures?
@mackemacchiato3238

With this driver the volume was too small, but in general when you have no resonance at all like in this hard shell, the sound gets very clean and distinct! ;)

@@mackemacchiato3238 Thanks for replying. I wish I could listen to it in first person. Well, to tune this kind of speaker low, will be a challenge then. But it complements the spherical asthetics of your setup at the same time :D

@@zenvir1680 i went to my shop yesterday and have 2 unbuilt ones and thought I could to a wooden ring and make tho whole smaller and try a 6.5” driver to get a better kick-bass maybe. Also fill the bassreflex tube with some foam to adjust the frequency a bit. On every sub I could mount a steel-pipe and mount my smaller globe on top and thus making it a 3-way system. Thanks for showing interest :)

@@mackemacchiato3238 yes, kick bass sounds like a good idea for this kind of project, although I don't think I fully understand what you said, what is a 3-way system?😅 (not an audio expert on this side, just a curious DIYer)

The 6.5” was great! The best one for Transmission line, but it worked great here also and now I out a pole on top of it and the satellite speaker on it so it became a 3-way system.

So are there actual "sonic differences" between a spherical enclosure compared to that of a traditional "cube" or elongated "box shaped" speaker cabinet?? I would assume that the density of the concrete would definitely help, just wondering about the "shape"...
@mackemacchiato3238
@mackemacchiato3238 9 ай бұрын
The round shape helps remove resonance and the “shell” vibrating. Egg shell principle . Strong but one can still keep it thin. A globe reduced standing waves inside and reduces unwanted noise. Mostly in higher frequencies, so the round shape is for the strength and mostly for design. Easy to furnish and to look at in a home instead of a black cube as the mainstream producers sells :) I also made one out of a hemp basket 🧺, with concrete inside.

Thanks man! It is a industrial secret a bit but if one make concrete sticky and reinforce it with a chicken-fence material one can mold it from the inside. :) I had to think alot before doing a 4-piece mold like that with the front and bassreflex tube also…

I guess you could easily 3d print a smaller sphere split to 4 parts, then insert it in the larger mould... You could also make a mould of a smaller sphere then mould of the inside of the mould you just made, then split to smaller pieces and assemble inside of the large sphere and pour the concrete... You could make a sphere out of XPS (CNC or by hand) or a similar material, put it inside, pour, then tear it apart and take it out... There are probably many more ways to do it, probably easier too, just need to think creatively and work with what you've got...
