Are you an Owner Driver or are you employed by company. Before I retired 12 years ago I worked 33 years for Tarmac 24 of them as a mixer driver and and about 9 years as a batcher .Good memories watching your videos certainly do long runs between loads .

Thanks for the comment Bill I was working for a company in Shropshire when I took this video, I have driven mixers for about 5 years in total, also I drove milk tankers, and curtain sider vehicles with a moffett. 👍

I’ve recently started driving as a mixer driver ( about 5 months now ), I drive a 8m3 Volvo fm with a mcfee mixer on the back. Love it to bits all the different places you get to and the different people you meet. One thing I hate is going up a big hill and meeting a car the other way and you have to stop and worry about it coming out the back when you set off again😂
@BritishTrucking3 жыл бұрын
I have had concrete coming out the back trying to get up a steep hill, I was on a DAF 8 wheeler that would carry 7.5 meters of concrete, it was difficult keeping it inside in that thing lol, I even had to be careful taking off from traffic lights, the MAN 6 wheeler was much better it carried 6 meters of concrete but had an oversized drum. I had a drive in a Volvo FM with rear steer they are a nice truck. thanks for the comment Jack. 👍

Driven concrete for 15yrs,3, 4,6,8m,steep hills I spin the drum faster, 8m drum legal at 7.5m, usually 8 overweight, pump truck can be tricky if the operator don't hit the horn to stop and start. In all my years the most important thing to remember is foam concrete is the most unpredictable, as it may spill going into roundabouts and slight gradients, which does make a right old ding dong. Its an ok job, but if it goes wrong, it goes wrong big time. I've seen football boot, hammer heads, part of a filing cabinet in loads, delivered in sand and stones,concrete trail around a village due to driver turning lever wrong way, plant computers breaking down, conveyor belts jamming, mobile phones going out of windows😂,truck fill tap left on when loading, bulker cement pipes splitting when unloading , truck ladders buckled from reversing into trees, a porch demolished from a reversing mixer, underground sewage tank floating in field, bridge pilings flooding,police cars splashed with concrete, wheel rims heavily buckled, exploding bottle of pineapple drink in cab of new truck, people tripping in concrete, christmas parties with the bosses wife dancing on the tables, some organised despatch personnel, old buildings revamped, underground roads in mountains, the miracle of underwater concrete which astonished the building inspector, totally incorrect delivery addresses, and forgotten customers. Its been a blast, worked with a great crowd, who some have moved on. Will I do it another few years to retire, I don't know, if the entertainment stays this good, probably YES😂😂😂👏👏👏

Ha Ha great comment Jo, I have seen many of those things myself over the years, It doesn't matter how many times you tell builders they need a dry mix to put a sceptic in, they simply don't listen! I always speed the barrel up going up hill but depending on the truck sometimes you still see a movement in the drivers mirror as you splatter the verge with concrete, some trucks are better than others. Thanks for the comment. 👍

do you really need to clean the drum if its raining?
@BritishTrucking3 жыл бұрын
Yes of course the drum needs cleaning everyday or there will be a buildup of concrete in no time, sometimes if there is a long gap between loads I will even rinse the drum out during the shift too. 👍

Hi, I've been offered a job as cement mixer driver. Can I ask whats the most physical part of the job? I have a slight back problem but have not told the employer. Tia
@BritishTrucking2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, It is probably one of the better jobs if you have a back problem depending how bad it is, I have had a bad back for many years from an injury I had when I was younger, I found the mixer job was great in comparison to other jobs where heavy lifting was involved, with a mixer you would need to be able to climb the ladder at the back of the truck, sometimes you may have to add additives to a mix depending on who you work for but the heaviest would be probably half a bucket of additive to pour into screed for example, another good thing about the mixer job is you are not driving for long periods of time, you are in and out of the cab and get chance to walk around a bit in between driving which is better for your back. Hope that helps, thanks for the comment 👍

Looking the video 1 year after, one question, the zig zag lines on the road whats for,? here in Costa Rica dont exist...
@BritishTrucking3 жыл бұрын
Not too sure which lines you refer to, if it is the Yellow crossed lines they mark an area that you are not allowed to stop a vehicle in, Zig Zags on the side of a road usually indicate no stopping too such as by Schools for example.
