Depending on your diamond manufacturer, you should be able to get a softer bond in the same grit for hard surfaces or a diamond with a smaller surface area to achieve the same results. If you drop down a grit, you add a lot more time to your job.

Our house was flooded and we have all the floor up to the concrete. We are going to put tile over the whole floor. There is tons of paint overspray and junk on the floors from when they built the house. I have tried a razor scraper but it just aint cutting it. I was thinking about renting a PG 450 planetary grinder and just going over the whole floor. The rental place was asking if I wanted 30, 60, or 120 grit. I would like something to profile the floor for good bond for the mortar and if they needed to use and self level. Would doing this also help level out highs with low spots?

what diamond blade/wheel would you use to remove thinset from concrete surface for re tiling the floor?

Any basic department store cup wheel will work fine. You don’t need an aggressive diamond grit for that. Suggest a T set or double seg on a 7 inch if you are looking at a couple hundred feet or less. May want to consider renting a floor machine or using acid.

Must have read the question wrong. I would just use an 8 inch razor scraper to remove the mortar. Suggest checking with a string line to see how level the concrete is. When the concrete is power troweled the illusion of a flat floor often hides even sever humps or waves. At the low spots simply pour self leveling on to the mortar you didn’t have to scrape off or trowel/squeegee a skim coat over it. You will have an easier time with install and a better looking floor that wont have tiles stressed. 3/4 inch of mortar on one side of the tile will shrink a lot more than 1/4 inch on the other side if you use mortar to fix it while installing. Tons of tips and tricks out there to make life easier with tile. Biggest one I think is installing cut tiles once your “field” tile can be walked on. You can cut multiple tiles in one trip.
