After backing into a huge pile of mud, a concrete truck gets stuck and buried up to its axles. This video shows the truck being pulled out. Notice how the tires shear off the wheel on the way out.

It's a composite mixer drum. Fiberglass and plastic with a steel ring to ride on the rollers. These composite drums are used to save weight so you can haul more. They have had quite a lot of problems with these drums.

You pay drivers mid to low hourly wages for driving one of the heaviest straight truck loads on the road. And to top it off, the normal destination for this mammoth load is usually a construction site or some place where the driving surface is practically guaranteed to be poor. Then, this happens and you're surprised. You pay up front or you pay when this happens.

well that good money didnt save him from making the rookie mistake of driving that load through a soft ditch, did it? So I guess we're back at the beginning with poor driver judgement, pay notwithstanding. It's not like driving your Ford Ranger truck around after the bar closes trying to pick up under age (male?) prostitutes. You see, these are much heavier and harder to corner.

You mean to tell me that the driver didnt know that was going to happen? It is a frigging mud hole! Open your friggin' eyes!!
@mrClayton196912 жыл бұрын
The tires pull off because they are deflated and off of the bead. Due to the sharp turn the wrecker is causing the truck to make, the tires just pull right off. It really isn't because of the mud or the hole. Though the mud makes it slippery, and it comes off easy.

that happens for not wanting to rent a concrete pump
@hbml.himireniarivero49338 жыл бұрын
agreed I drive a truck for Cemex and some of this cheap ass companies don't want to rent a concrete pump so now I check the ground if is too wet I make them use a wheelbarrow to get the concrete out or use the three chutes then showel the concrete
@JayDogTitan6 жыл бұрын
A pumper would have been the way to go, but you can look at the site and tell it's too wet, It's the drivers responsibility to scan the area, if it's that wet then don't take that truck in there, This turned out to be a very expensive delivery, at least 10 yards of concrete setting up in that drum, a busted tire that runs between 4 and 5 hundred dollars plus that tow bill which at the minimum is probably$1000

your supposed to get a curb side release signed by the customer when you deliver cement and you figure you wont make it or damage the truck. Then the customer is responsible to get you towed out, damage to the truck or damage to his property. The customer hates signing them. Its on your bill.

I agree, I drive a smaller truck but unfortunately have to go offroad more than I would like. Any spot I think might be trouble I put all my weight on one foot with my heal and see how far I sink, that gives me a good indication how much I can factor my truck sinking as my heal and weight is about the same ground pressure as my trucks steer tires have unladen. Works pretty good!

Notice the concern of the finishers. Probably had a back patio to pour.
@jonrogers513010 жыл бұрын
By the numbers on this truck it was a Jacksonville issued truck . The area looks like St.Augustine FL. That is a new truck with a fiberglass drum. The tires can be Bagged from inside the truck = the air let out to give it better traction and float in soft ground. The problem with inexperienced drivers is they wait until they are stuck before bagging their tires then the beads break loose from the rims cause the tread is in a narrow slot.The new trucks are all automatics He was probably empty or had a yard or two left.Look for the rename of Vulcan now on trucks.
@periesicsd11 жыл бұрын
They should taken an additional truck that has a concrete pump. Yeah, you've got to pay for that, but it goes fast, without all the mess, or a road full of dirt... I think the driver got his ass slapped for being a driver cowboy. That costs a lot to the company; a tow truck, a truck tire company, the hours the driver is waiting by his truck, deliveries for the next day since one truck was out. Yeah, his boss was very happy with his stunt...

This wasn't a pump/no pump issue, it was a clean-out issue. no clean-out tub so he backed off into the dirt to do his clean out and down he went. The fact that he spun the two front axle tires flat shows more incompetence.
@jeep624212 жыл бұрын
It looks like their is either an auto inflation system for airing the tires up and down or a cross over to equalize pressure between the duals. Either way when the hub filled with mud it broke a component and the air went out of both tires. since they share the same air. Silly for that guy to have kept trying when it was that stuck.

Was this in the south? I noticed when I moved from SoCal to Louisiana, the difference in the soil. Out here (west coast) the ground gets really slippery when it rains, out there I was amazed by the amount of water the ground could soak up. And holy cow, I sank up to my crotch on a jobsite in Shreveport after it rained for several days. I do miss the Southern states.

the tires were both off the bead, probably spun them so much that htey got too hot and flat.. Also it could have been the angle the truck was seemed a lot of weight no the left side of that truck ..

The guy needs to be fired. He should of checked the ground anyways before even backing in there.
@Gordon30212 жыл бұрын
No, something's not right here. Why did it only effect the front set of rear tires, & not the final set? I'm betting that either all of these had a slow leak to begin with, or the shop maint. didn't bother to give this trucks tires a "once over". In the first set of mud tracks, he obviously back in still loaded, & there's hardly any tracks. So, backing into a drainage culvert unloaded, definitely shouldn't have caused this. None of this really seems to make any sense.
@ericl29694 жыл бұрын
As someone else pointed out, it looked like it was equipped with a connector for filling both tires of the set together, and once the mud got up between the duals, the connector pipe broke and both tires went flat. Just the luck of the draw that it happened to that set of tires and not the other, or that it even happened at all.

The Tool Guy yeah, it wouldn't have gotten to that point in the first place if it didn't have the wrong tires, would it? holes don't just appear in the ground randomly, that truck dug that hole spinning trying to get out.
@islandfd3s7 жыл бұрын
The Tool Guy you really live up to your name, don't you? it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that bald tires don't work as well as new mud tires.

@ericl29694 жыл бұрын
This is one of many comments about bald tires, but look at those same tires later in the video and there's clearly a decent amount of tread. I think a lot of people here don't understand that all highway tires look bald after being spun in the mud. I used to run truck-mounted drill rig and in our clayey soils, that thing would look like it had bald tires when it got stuck, even with tire chains installed! The mud just puts a smooth coating over everything, even over the chains.
