Condor Kingfisher, the Perfect Blade for Those Who Cannot Afford a Real Falchion? Test Cutting!

Condor Kingfisher is designed by Baryonyx Knife Company of Maine, who took inspirations from historical falchions such as the Royal Armouries Wakefield English Hanger, and Afghan Khyber knives (Pesh-kabz). It has a lightweight blade tapered both in the profile and the distal plane, a false edge, and an integrated D-guard. An extremely affordable option for those who cannot afford a historical falchion, perhaps. It doesn't handle as the latter's finesse, but for a machete, it handles rather lively.

I have both real Messer & one of these & really like it. I made a custom wood core scabbard for it, carved/chased the handle scales etc. Great blade for hunting/roaming the forests particularly if you have dangerous animals etc in your area. Besides i would not feel comfortable using my reproduction messer for cutting down a tree but i have done so with the kingfisher.

This blade costed me 36 bucks and it didn't come with any edge. It wasn't just dull it was blunt like the one on the Royal Armouries Collection swords. But the blade is thin, and the bevel like most Condor machetes isn't too shallow. It took me about 15 minutes to bring both the true edge and the false edge to a serviceable sharpness, and sand down the very tough wooden slabs. Definitely a DIY project. Not a sword still, just a sheet metal cut-out into an inspired shape, with a little bit of distal taper and a lot of profile taper. Not bad at all for what you pay.

It's a fun little blade to take into the woods instead of banging up your nice swords against branches. I've always wondered how it would stand up in a fight against an actual sword that has some mass. But it definitely stands up well to most machetes and has a much "swordier" profile 😅 Think you'll do a review of this one?

I would love to review this blade. It’s an extremely fun design taking cues from the Wakefield Hanger, and Chinese butterfly swords (historical ones, not the modern ones), but uses the simple machete construction. It does have some mass, coming in at over 2 lbs, it still can parry blows from single-handed swords without much problem, especially with some extended hand protections. I should do a video review of it when I can free up my schedule.

@FortuneFavoursTheBold awesome!! Thanks for the reply. Love your videos and reviews so I'm a big fan. And I believe the makers stated somewhere that the kingfisher was designed with inspiration from the khyber knife, butterfly sword, and messer. Definitely worth the money IMO

Yeah, I believe the guy that designed this blade is the owner of Baryonyx Knife Co. of Maine, who wanted to make a machete capable of sword-like performance but having simpler constructions and grinds to remain affordable. Definitely achieved that!
