Most deleted scenes are usually the best ones in the movies and actually tie parts of the movie together but I can see why they deleted this. It starts the movie off on a dark ominous tone when the film is actually a lighthearted comedy.

Yeah I noticed that too. Later in the movie Prymat replies to Beldar "Not all Earth weapons are so useless" when he was talking to the Immigration agents.

Someone was talking about a scene before the fireworks show where Beldar dives down to the ship and then puts it in some kind of rocket for the homecoming festivities. Anyone remember this?

Ok I see now how it would create an inconsistency where he says use the clocking device. It would make Beldar’s trick at the end less believable.

I can see why they chose to delete this. The tone of the scene seems out of sync with the rest of the film, and there's a bit too much nonsense alien language.

Hopefully for the 30th anniversary (which is next year) they'll release a new DVD with the deleted scenes included.
