High level king is cool, seeing less competent players unable to break throws and get hit by 50 armor kicks in a row isn’t
@harpot678
@harpot678 6 ай бұрын
@@Giotron It's so funny that how anti newer player King specifically is. His throws are balanced at higher level through a knowledge/execution test that new players will never perform, you cannot just start mashing buttons on King because he has 2 (at least) very powerful power crushes, and the only counterplay new players will have against grab is duck (they cannot break throws, and you also need to know TO duck), ducking also being a risky high committment option that could get you launched. A new player also probably won't have the wherewithal to punish the King player hard from a successful duck under a grab.
@SirBitingBen
@SirBitingBen 4 ай бұрын
@@harpot678 I think its also kuz tekken is really not very new player friendly. Even running through tutorials doesn't teach you the nuanced mechanics and to make it through long enough to learn those mechanics and how to appropriately fight back, you have to actually be masochistic.

@ahnixcreations
@ahnixcreations 8 ай бұрын
@@unda4549 thank you! As far as the comparison, they’re very movement heavy, poke heavy games, where most moves are minus if blocked. I kinda compare air movement in smash to Tekken’s horizontal movement since it’s a 3D game. Of course it’s not a perfect 1:1, but I do think there’s a lot of parallels. Even the ground game in Tekken (when your opponent is knocked down) feels a lot like the ledge/recovery game in smash, since Tekken lets you stay on the ground, doesn’t give you invincibility while you’re knocked down (excluding ukemi which is a tech roll option, though it works a little differently from smash) and the attacker is heavily at advantage not just from the threat of a mixup if they do stand up, but with the threat of preventing your opponent from getting up in the first place, just like trying to get back on stage in Smash.

I don't watch live content often, but I set time aside and everything to watch this event, standing at my desk cheering and jumping like a fucking sports fan LMFAO. Fully convinced me along with Slime to learn the game, as well as maining King, despite being a grappler, and the community being Scrubs + Bitches + Bitchless + No Money about him. Respect for the multiple times you said the game absolutely isn't your thing, but I fucking loved this content, absolutely my favourite arc to this date. just 10/10 the whole way through, to the point where I was digging through twitch to find the tekken vods after the event to find more stuff, since I had to miss those streams, as well as just not being a live content guy too much in general. Cheers! excited to finish the video lmfao. Might ramble more after.

Also I can't really lie. Like you touched on, those laggy games were a real piss off. Leaving a separate comment cause I don't wanna be a complete hater, but my god that KILLED the momentum of that event. It is "technically" a casual event, but the attitude, presentation, and everything else was professional. Including the great prizes, including a fucking Evo trip of all things. I know everyone also agreed and knew beforehand, but even with that, it didn't look like anyone was happy about that lol. "Oh but they both deal with the ping" works a lot less when you can practice consistently, for weeks with that, versus having it dropped day of, unexpected. And then of course, daring not to smile and wave through it, just salty fan angry about X Y or Z losing. Totally not annoyed at the momentum change so obvious that even the streamers can't hide it lmfao. That condescension just locked me into Coney and my other interests streams and ignoring the rest of the Sajam content ngl. Only reason I wanted to rant here was because I got more hate/borderline harassment leaving a comment trying to word that politely on the vid summary lmfao.
@herbiek4922
@herbiek4922 7 ай бұрын
@@blujay1294 Yeah I feel like the ping thing was a series of several unfortunate misunderstandings that couldn't really be walked back on. I didn't understand what the big deal was while watching the event but I can see how it might have slowed the momentum of it a bit. Luckily people were trying to salvage the vibes and hopefully if a similar event in the future gets planned it will truly be region-locked

After that tournament, I bought an arcade stick and Tekken the next day, I was that moved. Following your team and everyone's progression paths, it didn't feel anywhere near as short as it was, and BP carrying what you all forged together in that week over the finish line was a story that could only be told through fighting games. What a great event, what a great team, what a great game, and what a great video. Seriously, these types of videos are my favorite, and I understand why they're rarer, but I'd love for more in the future. Anyway, I'm gonna go back to labbing combos myself now, thanks for inspiring me.

Am so impressed by Coney picking up the game so quickly. Regardless of character choice that kind of stuff doesn’t happen by accident! Gives me the motivation to buy Tekken 8 soon for myself. I always kinda kept the game at arm’s length for the most part. It always seemed way more difficult than the 2D fighters and platform fighters I usually play. I also rarely really had good experiences when it comes to the communities of most of the other fighting games I played. But I’m really starting to get lured into giving T8 a try!

The truth that people dont want to accept is that in a game without actual straight up broken exploits like Gambit glitch and shit like that, winning the set pretty much inarguably shows that you are legitimately just better at the game than your opponent. As the wise man Sajam himself once said, at some point you have to accept that you gotta play the game as it is, not how you wish it would or think it should be.

He truly was....my fucking coach, what a ride yeah no shit winning in early ranks is just knowledge checks, most early game fighting games are. Check this mixup that no beginner knows how to handle, check this rushdown that every newbie can't handle. People act like the trenches of a fighting game are something so clean and high level, no I do the bare minimum over and over until somebody stops me and if nobody does all the way to purple rank then that's their weakness. Super get the "love tekken, don't like tekken" thing, the wall truly is enormous in learning how to play Tekken against people who know what they're doing. Glad you still enjoy it so much casually and will keep playing it for the future, there's a King in all of us just waiting to power crush his problems away.

What a riveting story! I was cheering you on from the minute I saw you were on the streamer roster, and watched y'all play live as I prepped for uni midterms. And thanks for your honesty about the game. I personally love it, but with the time available to me, I can only learn enough to play relatively casually. It's great to see how you came to your own conclusions about it. Thanks for sharing this adventure with us!

This video single handedly convinced me I need to watch Tekken. Coney screaming in hype had me in tears, not from laughing, but from being overwhelmed with how much emotion and passion each moment had. I will never play Tekken, but god DAMN dude. What a good ass game.

If this is your first time seeing the Sajam Slam and the coach fight felt hype as fuck watching this, I'd HIGHLY recommend scouting out the vod. LazyMattMan and Brawlpro played a friendly set against Imaqtpie and Joey Fury (the people they would've fought if it got past the first 3 games) and they were incredible.

Yo this is such a good video. I have never even touched a Tekken game in my life and I've only played a handful of fighting games incredibly casually, but you made such an endearing and easy-to-follow video here; it genuinely had me crying by the end, hahaha, great work!

This showed me that approach matters more than most things people focus on. To get to purple rank in only 4 days of playing the game is insane. You would have never got there if you didn't prioritize certain things and put yourself in a good environment to learn the game. Memorizing the command throws and hitting them in matches in only 4 days was especially impressive.

I mean he said multiple times on stream it's just not for him. The importance of frame data and the constant treadmill of learning isn't for everyone, especially if you have other professional or family things that take a lot of time.

@@AccelgorTheNinja He played king and did well. Playing King was bad enough, but like the Phidx clip said, Coney played Tekken to win, not as part of a long career, or as a fan assuming/mimicking pros. So he did simple shit, and did it well. Plus scrubs can't learn to break grabs.

Watching this live was a magical experience, I don't think there's any way that a video can expose the pure emotion of chat and Team Brawlpro. Hearing the screams of "THAT'S MY GOAT, THAT'S MY COACH, THAT'S MY KING, THAT'S MY FUCKING DAD" is incomparable to anything you get outside the FGC Incredible video regardless, and I'm so happy to see this Coney Tekken arc however small, recognised and memorialised forevermore

People berating Coney for being a purple rank is the perfect example of Tekken players being elitist hypocrits. Ive been playing Tekken since Tekken 3 and have played every title and am currently Tekken Emperor on a chunk of cast, And I for one am happy to see someone actually be so good off the bat, which is arguably in a game where biggest hump new players get is not getting instant feedback of progress, VERY hard to do. And even if this supposedly the “hardest game in FGC”, its not hard to learn spacing and armor/move priority ESPECIALLY for a former pro player. People act like its a surprise fromer CSGO pro players are suddenly good at like Valorant. 😂
