Confessions on Govee’s COB Strip Light Pro & Strip Light 2 Pro Light Strips

Just when I was about to give up on finding a good video comparing the brightness and actually talking about them in depth between the COB, strip light 2 pro and strip lights with covers, I found your video. This should be the first result for comparison of govee strip lights. Thank you for really spending the time to talk about these comparisons because, as you pointed out, they don't translate perfectly by camera. This is the actual best review video I have seen to date, This is how review videos should be, I haven't even skipped a second, had to listen carefully, took some screenshots, saved the video. I have never done that to any review video Every second of the video is important and matters, Man you actually explained everything about 5 different (similar) products, how they are different, how they function, pros and cons of each in 13 mins (and although he was mainly speaking about two products). Got the Strip 2 Pro, after this video, but returned because even with the cover it’s not spotless. Get the COB Pro if you care about brightness and a spotless layout. Thank you for the review!

A big downside of the COB Pro Strip Light that hasn't been mentioned is that if you decide to cut its lenght you cannot use the remaining part anymore, since Govee does not give you the option to order an additional power connector. This really is unsustainable and a waste of money.

Just wanted to say thank you for your Excellent concise to the point review!! I was going back and forth between the cobs and the Pro 2’s but you have definitely sold me on getting the Pro 2’s and it’s funny because I was watching another KZbinrs(Chris Maher)review of these same two lights and he also said getting the pro 2’s with a diffusion cover is the best way to go,so I guess great minds think alike lol.Whelp time to spend money I don’t have on even more govee products!! 👍🏾👍🏾

I don't understand why they keep changing product names when they give an update. For instance, the flow pro light bars have changed their names 2-3 times. In their cover app, they keep changing names of functions which make searching online a big hustle

Thank you for taking the time to review these products. Would you be willing to measure the width and depth of the cob strip? These specs are not listed on govees website or any other reviews I've watched, only the length is listed.

Sure thing, thanks for checking it out. The COB width is about 2cm and the depth is about a 1/2 cm. It’s an extremely narrow and shallow diffuser. It’ll be able to fit into very tight spaces.

Can you cut them, then put a connector and a wire between pieces? I don't see pin points at the cut locations. I'm trying to make a closet system, and want to move between sections via wire extension. I mean for the Strip Pro 2, NOT the COB.

Yes you can but you need to solder them and all that work so I don’t think it’s worth the time and effort 🎉

Brightness is mostly measured for output in lumens. But you can measure also warm lights in lumen

Great review, thanks a lot. Need to install some strip light 2 pros but cant get hold of the 10m anywhere. You (and Govee) confirmed you can splice 2 x 5m though but can you confirm what connectors to use? Would it be 5 pin connector? (for the RGBICWW). Have you tried to do it? I know the IC strips can sometimes not work as well

I’m really interested in buying the cob lights. But I’ve watched several videos and it looks like they glitch when flowing through colours (when going left to right) is this how it’s meant to look or does it glitch as there’s gaps

For longer length, pro 2 is the best option, and for shorter length, COB is the one to go with.

I think the cob might be perfect for me as I already have coving and that strip will be perfect to fit underneath the plastered edge as I’ve been struggling to find something that would be good. Can you connect extension strips or link sets of them ?

Thank you, this is the best review I've seen with a comprehensive explanation of these products. Perhaps you can make a recommendation. I am trying to install two 3 meter light strips (recessed out of direct view) but separated by a 10 ft. non-lit space. due to limitation for the power source, I need them to be connected to the same controller. (it's inside the cabin of a boat) I've seen products that promise to safely splice a cut light strip, but I've been skeptical to try with a $200 set of lights that I will not be able to return once cut. (I have the added task of replacing the 120V AC power source with a 12v to 24v step-up circuit,) Have you tried this? btw/ I also would love to see Govee sell that track/cover system separately.

I need a 3m bar to be illuminated from the side and from the bottom. This means I am forced to use the COB right? If you can be bothered to answer I have a few questions: 1. I guess the only advantage of the cob over the strip 2 is the extra brightness, but all other specs the Strip 2 wins? 2. I want to get the strip 2 pro for along the edge of my ceiling but the 10 meter strip is 1 meter too short just to go around three walls.1 would need 15 meters of the light strip 2 pro to go all the way around on all 4 walls. My room is 12 foot 7 inches on one side , 13 foot 3 inches on the other side , 11 foot wide on front and back walls.

The pricing on the COB doesnt make sense to me. You can get the Strip Light 2 Pro and an amazon channel kit and still get something similar while saving $20-30. I guess the price difference really comes down to how bad you need the extra brightness from the COB?

Hey man, it doesn’t look like most of the preset scenes could support something like that. Give Ripple a shot. You could, however, achieve this effect with any scene by utilizing two separate strips.

​@@MrTekSuggest There is the rub. You've got the pull w/ Govee to make this happen. The 'start animation in the middle' isn't available on the Strips of LED's. Nor in the DIY section of the app. I have every model of Govee strips, including the latest pro that was released 3 days ago, and not one has that flexibility to give the end user the option to start animation in the middle of the strip. My Y lights, yes. My cube lights, yes. And though ripple is available on a very small few of LED strips from govee, we still can't control the color of the animation nor the speed (i'm looking at you rainbow scene) It sucks that to get this effect we have to purchase yet another strip which means another mac address on our wifi. Why does Govee push, users like me, to move everything over to WLED and forego using Govee with stuff like this is a mystery. But I'm hoping you can talk to your Govee rep.

Yeap , the strip can be cut. Make sure to follow the guidelines Indicated on the strip. If you’re using it for Dreamview, make sure to line up the Centerpoint with your monitor to get the best zone alignment

Received some confirmations guys. So the strip 2 pro has 3 length: 3m, 5m and 10m. 2m's and 3m's can support extension up to 10m. But the 10m cannot be extended any further.

Hey man, yes the COB light can bend. But personally, I wouldn’t try to achieve a perfect 90° as it may damage the housing overtime. i’d leave a little bit of slack or wiggle room when curving around sharp edges.

Give me a Pro 2 with each LED being its own zone. Why can't Govee do each LED as individually addressable like the Nanoleaf Essential HD. I replaced my M1 because movement of color across the strip felt so janky using 6 LEDs per zone instead of each LED being its own zone. Sadly the Nanoleaf is a little less bright than the M1. I guess the perfect strip doesn't exist yet.

The diffused look without doing anything additional is really what I’d like and want it to go around a 5x2 set of 3D wall paneling, but questioning the flexibility around 2 tight corners at the top. Can the COB Stripi Light Pro bend around a square corner? I plan on doing a recessed light box on my ceiling with a ledge that will be illuminated. It's a square opening so I will need to curve the light around a 90 degree angle. Thanks for the great video and the response. 😁👍🏼✨

It can bend at 90° angle, but I’m a bit hesitant to recommend. In all honesty it’ll probably be fine, I just worry about that taking its toll on the silicone diffuser over time.
