If you are using typescript project, you can use zod to validate process.env and utilize Readonly or "as const" based on scenarios to make the values readonly.

Your point doesn't solve problem. You said you have to change 50 times. Using process.env and config.env solves the same problem of reference. Also --env-file option is not supported in development for typescript projects as per my knowledge.

You are right about typescript projects, myself faced issue while working with ts-node. I didn’t get your first point.

okay let me explain, what i meant. suppose, we are using environment variables today. If we do process.env everywhere in our project, If tomorrow we decide not to use environment variables at all, let say, we will use variables from external config file. Now, I will have to change code everywhere in our project, but instead of we do centralized solution which I have shown in the video, we will have to change it only in that config file. Basically your project (wherever we using it) should not know about variables whether they are env variables or variables from somewhere else.

@@CodersGyan but the solution of using config.js file came only because Devops team was telling that process.env was declared too much times in our files so it was taking more space , so to optimise it we created the config.js file when process.env is called once for each variable. Did I understand it correct sir?

@@sunnyvlogs__ No, they wanted to get rid of env variables at all. There is one more practice in enterprise application, we can use an external config file to store variables instead of process environment. That’s why we bring all variables at centralized location then exported from there, how I showed in the video.
