Israel is self defined as "a Jewish State". This is incompatible with democracy, which implies that every state is the state of its citizens. Anyone interested on the character of that state should read "The Iron Wall", the opuscule written by Jabotinsky, the most influential zionist thinker on Israel in the last decades, where he recognises that the zionist project is a colonial project that can only be viable oppressing or exiling the the native population and gives the example of what the European descendants did with the American natives. Uriel Abulof can argue that he was born there and that gives him a right to continue living, and voting, and having the same rights of any citizen there, and that is true. The same was true for the Boers descendants which represented a 10% of South African population in 1988. Even if their great-grandparents were already there when the Jewish population in Palestine was a tiny minority, they had to accept a new society where black people is a majority and everybody has equal rights. They received , in exchange, the guarantee of the preservation of their security and their (legal) properties. What Abulof is demanding , on the contrary, is the right to live in a Jewish State, where certain Palestinians were allowed to remain if they represent a minority incapable of changing the character of the state, where every Jew from Atlanta, Montevideo or Riga would receive automatically the citizenship (and a subsidy to settle down)and the descendants of those that were thrown out in 1948 and 1969 could not come back , or, at least be compensated for the properties they had to leave. He wants to live in the ethnocracy that he knew in his childhood and Netanyahu is aesthetically inconvenient for that purpose. He represents the prototype of a moderate liberal Israel Jew.
