At first I thought it was kinda silly, but now I understand why it's bad to do this. It definitely would be a conflict of interests. They're much more likely to be nicer to this company and staff. More likely to help the company and arrest someone who they're told did something wrong in that store. Nice one AB.

Yes, the police are not accountable. Their 'professional standards' departments and the IOPC are a Potemkin village. They act as camouflage but are not real structures. And of course, when you know that it gives you every reason to believe UK law is worthless and every reason to take revenge should the police mistreat you.

Look how easy it has been for a member of the public to uncover corrupt practices by serving police members. What the hell do the IOPC and other supervisory police bodies or staff do to root out corrupt practices? Must be absolutely nothing. The entire force from desk clerk to chief inspector appear to have no inclination to serve the public. Auditing has shone a light on how defunct this entire organisation is.

Section 5 of the guidance is clear.... Hospitality can be offered and received as a matter of common courtesy, but this DOES NOT include the offer of a free drink or meal at a private or commercial premises or outlet which that coffee shop is. Attending a coffee shop for the sole purpose of obtaining a free drink is not considered acceptable, Yet all police everywhere will get FREE McDonalds, Greggs, Subways and freebies from many other private and commercial outlets which is why they will arrive within minutes if there are any issues whereas if you get burgled then you'll be lucky to get a visit from the police at all.

There can be arrangements between organisations and the police force where the organisation can offer services or products at a discount. But not for free. The arrangement is that any member of the police can take up the offer. The organisation will make the offers because they know they have a specific target market. Many large companies offer such things as a perk to their employees to make the working environment a better place. I've worked placed where cheap insurance, discounts off event tickets, offers on grocery items from the like of Asda/Tesco/et al, and membership of CostCo were available. The arrangement between the police and the organisations needs to be public knowledge and has to be authorised at very senior level.

Free coffees are just the very tip of the corrupt iceberg. I have a friend who years ago used to own a bar/restaurant in central London. About once a week, two policemen would park their marked police car outside, walk into the bar just before closing time at 11.30pm, go downstairs where the restaurant was located and would order a full expensive meal with a bottle of Vodka. Being downstairs in the basement also meant they weren't visible from the street! This was a real pain because instead of closing up and going home, my friend and the chef would have to stay much longer, to cook their meal and then wait until the policemen had finished, which was sometimes as late as 1.30am. After the policemen had polished off their meal AND bottle of vodka, they would both DRUNKENLY stagger back into their police car and drive off. On one occasion, when I saw this myself, I was really shocked and asked my friend what the hell was going on? I also asked him did the police actually pay for their meal and Vodka? He told me that, no, he never charged them and the cops never expected to have to pay. He said that this all started just after he opened the bar. These same two policemen came in, made small talk, and then said that bars in the area often get raided BUT if the local officers 'know' the bar owner, they would make sure that his establishment isn't 'disturbed.' At the same time they also _'made it understood',_ that the 'friendly' bar owners in the area who had courteously offered them free meals, were guaranteed to never be 'bothered' by law enforcement and should the police ever get a call regarding any trouble (a fight breaking out, etc.) those particular bars would be placed on their priority list to attend the scene - namely, they'd get preferential treatment! Like I said, free coffee's are the tip - and beginning - of this very corrupt iceberg!

Yes. They're always hanging around our local Mac'D 24'hr joint. I only go there once or twice a week but I always see 2 to 4 & sometimes 6 uniformed cops sitting inside, never seen them actually eating but mostly sitting with a coffee, some doing paperwork & often with a laptop on the table in front of a few of them, or sitting in their marked cars in the Mac'D customer car spaces & just staring at & into cars driving in & out. It's always late & dark when I go & i often wonder if they're the same cops all the time or just different cops all the time but I've never ever not seen them there, engaged in doing one of the above examples at our local Mac'D joint. If anyone urgently needs a cop's help in my area, running into the Mac'Ds is yer best bet because they didn't turn up till the next morning, saying "do you still need us?" when my friend & wife were in trouble & in need of police help, had rang them the night before because a group of local louts were throwing stones at his windows & smashed his driveway's parked car's windscreen. There would have been a few spare cops doing next to nothing just 300 yards down the road at the Mac'D, that's where he best ring if he needs them urgently again.

I worked for Cafe Nero and there is no "gift" policy whatsoever in fact the opposite, the staff get free drinks when they're on shift they're not allowed to pass it on. One of the girls I worked with got caught doing it and got sacked, as it happens one of the regulars who had got to know her; was a lawyer and they took Cafe Nero to task with an argument along the line of "technically if she makes a drink for herself on shift it's then hers and up to her what she does with it, drink, tip down the sink or give away" Cafe Nero offered her £1000 to shutup and go away and that was that.

Not that I think the staff member should get in trouble, although she probably will lol. It's a low paid job unless you're manager and for that they want blood. Your performance is reviewed every week via the value of your average transaction and if you fall below; expect a couple of chances to get it up or you're gone. The area managers are very annoying and regularly turn up at 7am to "audit" the store and they're very very strict. It's long hours and you're expected to serve at least two customers at all times. The toilers are considered public by most of the town and get in a right mess with excrement, urine and drug users. The coffee is strong though and when I worked there I didn't have to buy food ever as they unofficially let you take the stuff before it goes off date as it just gets binned. It's a good way to meet women, and when I worked there I was a hardcore stoner so nailed espresso all shift and smoked skunk all evening, I played guitar in a punk band so just lived my best life for a few years and they were good days.
