Conflict theory observes how the unrest in a society will cause it to change and evolve to relieve the tension. Also check out the Khan Academy MCAT test prep section (www.khanacadem...) for more sociology videos.

I'm with you, and most of how I learn these days is by my own initiative; I go looking for something; this site is often referred to as "KZbin University", and these kinds of videos are really rather good quality lessons. The problem is that, like any university, you have to select your teachers well. There're a lot of garbage in universities these days, so when in college, select your courses well, and with caution.

so a couple thoughts to ponder. 1) Is there a society that is "stable"? 2) Is there a society that has ever shown "unity"? 3) Is there any society that accepts the "status quo"? The answers to those questions is no. History teaches us that there is "stability" is relative, unity is nonexistent with the exception of certain small segments that share a religious/ideological belief, and that the "status quo" is constantly being challenged by those in small and large groups.

A very interesting video. I'm only just learning about conflict theory, but I know enough about Marx to see that this video inaccurately portrays his view. Marx did not believe that there would be any "compromise" between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat that would form a new thesis. Indeed, Marx believed that all conflict in history was based on class. Once the proletariat overthrew their bourgeois masters (a revolution that was inevitable, he believed), a classless society would be born and conflict would cease; thus the End of History.
@browneyes87475 жыл бұрын

@The Tullyman4.2068 u lack the basic idea of sociology and history. if u cant go to college just study some online course before you comment on his theory. show some respect for a great philosopher and sociologist. the cold war was last century dude.

@The Tullyman4.2068 imagine 100k for some family is just like 100 for ur family. we just dont care so much about it. maybe ignorant is the reason why u cant afford 100k and why ur children also cant.

@The Tullyman4.2068 students loan? never thought of that and none of my friends need that. of course my parents pay for my tuition, you know few ivy students apply for a "students loan". they are even kind of proud of me because my uncle donates near one million to get his son enrolled. certainly we are all bourgeoisie according to marx. my grandparents in real estate and some heavy industry, they got my parents to wall… tbh i really hate marxism, much more than u hate it. but thats why i can see what a genius he is. however, he surly overestimate the power of the lower class, workers, farmers..... u never have the guts to overthrow ur overlords. actually maybe u contribute a little for my family wealth.

This "workers' revolt" has happened, but in the methods of the worker: unions and strikes as it turns out; to negotiate for better working conditions. A strike really is an act of desperation, as it helps no-one involved, it really is a mutual strangle-hold between management and labor, until one side gets sick of it and yields and asks to negotiate.

When I was a young man, of roughly 19 years old, I was working as a movie-usher. Well, one day, I remember running across a note that was distinctly socialist in nature, or appeared to be so in message, in the break-room. Not much of an obstacle to me overall, I was content in my job- it was the first job I'd had in the main-line working world that was working out overall pretty well; I could do it, in good conscience overall, and was pretty happy about that. Some sociologists would say I had very high self-control; and overall, so long as I am not cheated out of the wages I agreed to work for, I am content. Now, I had zero inclination to protest, ever, the working conditions I had encountered in that job, my bosses were pretty reasonable about working conditions they expected me to do, and I was rather content to work in that environment, I could do the work, which was a big one for me. I would be lying to engage in any workers' protest, by deeds if not by words.
@chissstardestroyer3 жыл бұрын
Here's a functional idea: the former bosses, the factory owners; how'd they get their position? They maneuvered things to suit their liking; so they would if they didn't like how the new managers were operating, and the workers? Well, workers if they are unhappy with the working conditions they tend to strike if things get bad enough; almost never does this sort of thing come to "blows" at that. Even in Imperial Rome's days, the workers did go on strike- and it worked: they managed to negotiate a change in the labor conditions they were undergoing.

There should not be an entire field of study (social science) devoted to this. It is as you say, a useful tool for understanding society, and one that a lot of people could benefit from understanding. But when so many people go to school and focus on social science we end up with a bunch of idealists with no real skills beyond their ability to complain that society is imperfect. That's not to say that people shouldn't speak up about the imperfections in society, but it would be a lot more productive if the people speaking up about the imperfections in a certain area of society actually knew something about that part of society. For example it would be much more productive if a woman with a degree in Physics were raising issues about women in Science rather than someone with a degree in womens' studies.

Basically, to solve all of society's problems: get man right, you get society right. Why do people not see that?
@MrAgudo13137 жыл бұрын
OK. Looks nice, in theory, but what is the final solution?--Will the proletariat take over the factories of the bourgeoisie, and then the bourgeoisie will become the new proletariat?--If the New Middle Class become the bourgeoisie, will the old bourgeoisie join the rank of the old proletariat . . . to become a New Proletariat?So my question remains: What is the solution?I believe there is none, for there always have been Rich and Poor. Strong and Weak. Healthy and Sick.Communism is not the answer, since then we will replace the Bourgeoisie-Proletariat with the New Elite (those in power) and the Comrades (those working). The New Elite will have the power and will decide how to dispose and give to the Comrades enough to eat and exist. Is that the solution?If we go with Socialism, then the Bourgeoisie and the Middle Class will have to work and pay (big taxes) to support all services and the rest of the population, which in turn will create a New Proletariat that without working ask and demand to have all their necessities guaranteed by the Government, without contributing anything to society.So, again, what is the solution to a Fair and Equitable Society?In my humble opinion, Capitalism with Freedom and Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness is the best por Society, for at least the Proletariat have a "dream and a goal" to become one day part of the Bourgeoisie.Just my way of thinking, anyways! Have a Good Day!

Luis Toledo in my opinion i think capitalism is toxic in its nature...First of all, some people are poor as a result of the conditions that are beyond their control and the goverment's failure to provide social welfare and aid would be to stigmatize the poor and marginalized...For me, equality is more important than freedom...capitalism is a system of exploitation and some people benefit at the expense of others...well thats not how it should be...everybody should live a better life, instead of dying of hunger and starvation while others live fancy lives...and again, it will be best if the state owns industries and businesses on behalf of individuals and rather allocate wealth equally among all citizens, coz capitalism might promote economic growth, however in case of crises (like economic recession) the consequences are devastating when businesses are own privately by individuals rather than the state..the state will have no power to help address problems arising from economic crise...Remember the 1929 Great Depression??

I am watching your videos in order to see what makes a video of this kind popular. I am a reasonably patient person, but you are boring me to death. So I wandering what are you doing wrong. I think one problem is your voice, do some exercises, you are talking from your nose . Plus, you have absolutely no rhythm to give momentum to your voice. Secondly, you have no sense of space in your visuals, it looks unorganized. And lastly, your content has no story, is a presentation of some ideas... This is the main problem... anyway take it as feedback, and not hate...because it is no way hate

A sounds-good theory, too bad the reality is the starvation of about 75 million people. In real sciences when a theory is shown not to work it is rejected. In common language, conflict theory is nonsense that excludes all the human interactions involved in trade, specialization, and mutually beneficial trade which creates wealth in the first place.
