calò non era nessuno prima dell'arrivo di riina, se ti leggi i libri di buscetta come "addio cosa nostra" lo spiega. era un commesso di negozi all'inizio, diventò l'inviato della mafia a roma solo quando cominciarono a prendere il sopravvento i corleonesi. infatti per esempio la banda della magliana in un primo momento era in contatto con stefano bontade, e successivamente dopo la sua morte con calò, questo lo ha confermato abbatino nel maxiprocesso alla banda.
