i think he tries to find the logical formula in every meme, when often times the point of the meme is that it defies logic lol

@IamMarius right, but i feel like inherently there is an issue with logic itself as the facts on which a person bases their logic off of can sometimes get disproven in the future. of course there are things like water is wet which are definitively factual, but there are many things which are not so definitive but the confidence is extremely high in them which is pretty much Hikaru's logic "issue" a lot from what i've noticed :P i think the fact that Hikaru didn't get the 1st meme shows how strongly disciplined and conditioned, and confident he is in his chess ability rather than his chess DIS-ability

Yeah memes are such a brain dead form of entertainment or commentary. Most can be reduced to “thing good, thing bad”. I like that he’s trying to be respectful and interested in the “culture” but there isn’t as much depth or context needed to understand them as he seems to expect. You have to travel the most slimy shitposting pages to find stuff with heavier information load but these same sites will be less wholesome and be so plastered with absurdity that it might feel similarly simple after a while
