As a half-Tanzanian half-German child, I never could explain why certain music made me feel so safe and sheltered. Now I know, it is the African guitar riff syle that I've known and loved since I was a little child. Asante sana!

I was introduced to Soukous when I saw Diblo Dibala in Central Park, Summer of ‘91. Musically, it was the best concert I’ve ever been to. I have always loved Soukous ever since, and haven’t found any guitarist as amazing as Diblo.

Agree! Saw him (Diblo) with Aurelius Mabele and Loketo at Montreux in Atlanta in the summer of '89. Nothing compares.

Joyful! It's lemon floating in iced tea as dark as the Congo river. With a sprig of mint..... When a guitarist says "this says" you can tell he places human value to his works, which gives them true life. I really dig this.

Chord tones are key for blending both the rhythm and lead so that they dance on the same stage singing off the same hymn sheet. Here is a great example of music making melody with one another - not just a mindless fumble. Love it.

@ Joseph: You would play blues absolutely fine! Blues is universal. It's something no one can learn, or someone can teach. Blues is passed on from person to person. it's what you experience when you listen to blues. it affects people different ways. Say I showed you some old blues song I picked up from Furry Lewis, (the way you showed me some Soukous) You'd be playing 'Your blues' with a soukous flair, or vice versa, You have now just created a blues for some one to pick up on. Your feelings, your soul is now out there for another soul to connect with musically. Your blues melt with their blues. It's all universal, and it's nothing but feeling what you're dealing to get others reeling. Thank you for sharing soukous with everybody. I absolutely love it!

i don't really know how to play the guitar, tho i'm in the process of learning in school, and for my assignment ive to write an essay on african guitar styles and im choosing congolese guitar style (soukous) and palm wine! just stumbled across this while doing some research, this is such a happy song!! :D

So true!!.....there is technique...then there is soul!! Place the same instrument in the hands of virtuoso players from different parts of the world, and different things come out!! Each region, each player brings their own soul into the music...that something from inside them that cannot be replicated in a textbook or tutorial, or even practice.
