Here's the most hilarious part. The people MOST ADAMANT and MOST VOCAL about their love for Trump, all work in the trades - especially trades that work with wood products. They build homes, they run roofing crews, they do remodeling and repair, they do renovations, they frame new home construction, they do all kinds of work that requires wood. If you remember, the price of lumber skyrocketed in 2021, and the complaints about lumber prices went through the roof as well...$1,686 per 1000 board ft. The cases were dismissed without prejudice, which means they can be refiled in 4 years. Also, the presidency halts the statute of limitations on the cases, so there is nothing stopping these cases from proceeding to completion in the future.

Maybe it was enough for Agent Orange to let his corporate allies win. Big Retailers could justify price hikes (just like Lowes and Walmart are doing now). Some companies across industries engage in price gouging but it would be hard to tell amidst inflation. And if I'm not mistaken, the revenue generated by the tariffs on China the first time around mostly went to farming corporations. According to the Council on Foreign Relations, 66 billion dollars in bailouts were issued. Not sure how many recipients were small family farms. Unfortunately, many Americans don't realize that those tariffs trickle down to the importers who in turn pass the burden to the consumers.

I keep trying to think of ways that this can end calmly. Somehow, I think we're just screwed. Trump has shown that he can be brutally stubborn when he sets his mind to something, and I don't think the combined whining of business executives will stop him. A lot of people talk about how Trump is better for the economy, I guess they just like stagflation that much.

The return tariff isn't as much of a problem as everything imported from your trading partners now being 25% more expensive. They aren't going to eat the cost themselves (they don't have 25% margins, so they literally can't), so the tariff gets added to the price tag paid by Americans. Probably around 30% or so, because it's not like you have alternative suppliers. And guess what Walmart will do when imported goods suddenly jump in price? Raise the prices for locally produced goods to match. Cause why not; you have no idea what's local and what's imported, and they'd love to pocket that 25% extra. Besides, the tariffs are going to cause inflation either way, they might as well grab as much of your income as they can while its still worth more than toilet paper. Then the outbound tariffs mean that your trading partners buy less american goods, so now less money is coming into the system as well, even as the american economy grinds to a halt as more and more people have too much month left over at the end of the paycheck.

It is mindboggling what is going to happen in this country. That half of this country is so extremely and utterly stupid. I woke up this morning and checked my bank account and my SS check wasn't there. To say I panicked was putting it mildly. Then I checked and realized today is Tuesday, I get that check the fourth Wednesday. Then it hit me.....This panicky, sick to my stomach, the tension headaches, I remembered that was what it was like when drump was in office last time. God help us all.
