In our Buddhist teachings, the ultimate goal is to transcend personal attachments to serve the well-being of all sentient beings, including one’s family. By renouncing worldly life, this mother may be seeking a higher spiritual calling, which could allow her to cultivate qualities such as compassion, equanimity, and wisdom-qualities that, in a sense, can continue to benefit her children indirectly. By committing to spiritual growth, this mother may find ways to offer blessings, prayers, and merit to her children, hoping that they, too, find peace, happiness, and liberation from suffering.
