I wish duolingo would start you with the infinitive form of verbs before showing how to conjugate them....might not have to look up conjugation explanations on youtube then 😅

dont use duolingo...if you want to be fluent or at least conversational do not just use duolingo. Babble, Fluency forever are 2 good apps, i use them in conjunction with Anki and watching youtube and podcasts in italian.

You speak Italian beautifully! Thanks for this explanation. The beginning of the lesson confused me a bit because the most important fundamental verb in English, To Be, is conjugated as I am,, you are, he is...all different endings...but maybe there aren't many verbs that do that in English...not sure!
@susie22513 жыл бұрын
To be is the only one.
@GorgieClarissa Жыл бұрын
I am, you are, he is .... we still conjugate verbs in english. Just not as much as the romance languages. I run, he runs - still conjugates

Excellent. Grazie Millie. This is brilliant. On a different note, can you explain why there are some many different words for "what"? For example, come, che, che cosa, cosa, qual.
@zetanove3 жыл бұрын
'What (thing)' means 'che cosa', and even just 'che' or 'cosa' is used to say 'what'. 'Come' means 'how' and 'quale' means 'which'
@heatherperleberg78163 жыл бұрын
At 5:45 I'm confused as to why it's 'Gli spaghetti' and not 'i spaghetti'. I thought you only use 'Gli' when it's the plural form of a singular noun that uses l'. I.e, "Gli uomini bevono l'aqua" instead of "L'uomo beve l'aqua".
@felicepompa17023 жыл бұрын
No its also the plural of the article "lo" (singular would be "lo spaghetto" or "lo zaino", plural is "gli spaghetti" "gli zaini") it's this way because it makes the words easier to pronounce (also it's "acqua" with a "c" every water related word is irregular and has a "c" before the "q" like "aquarium" = "acquario")

gioco -- seems like the root of "joke" - to play leading to To Joke...or sharing a root...and the name Gio - Gioele...the playful one, maybe? Just riffin' here, Professor Dave.

Very good. With that beard and that hair I feel like Jesus is teaching me. By the way, I love to conjugate verbs because without them you can't make a sentence.😊
@june41983 жыл бұрын
I love the sound of these languages but 2 things I cannot and will never understand about Italian, French,.. - why do nouns even have genders, you just need a word to name the objects, absolutely confusing - second, why are there different verb forms for different subjects? It's the same action, make more sense if you just conjugate them based on the tenses. I know these have been around for so long, they make the language more distinct and unique. Still, these 2 things just make the language more complicated to learn, so sad.
