I love how each section of the game takes references from the 70's-90's and interweave them beautifully into the story. It's not references for the sake of it, but rather the references are used as a form of execution of the story via jokes from said references. I cannot help but applaud the writers. They deserve more love for the care they executed the comedic story with them so carefully. They took them, made great jokes and made a memorable story out of it. This game is the king of parodies as they made something new with them. EDIT: I also love how along with them, they themed almost every chapter off a famous movie with each one as the basis of the direction such as what they did with the Dracula (Spooky) and Saving Private Ryan (It's War) chapters. I'm sure the others have main themes but these two are the two most obvious ones.

@@ElSandwich777 Heinrich was the reference from Alien and had plenty of explanation. The Panther King's milk was being dosed by the Professor who very vividly hated him the entire time and showed from the very first scene where the Panther mentions getting "The duct tape again" and professor goes back to his lab cussing him out and saying he'll "show him where to stuff it." They literally could not have made it any clearer that the Professor was going to overthrow him at some point. 😂

Fun fact: Saving Private Ryan portrayed a scene that happened before that Machine Gun nest was stormed by a Private First Class and destroyed by him... A few moments after that scene where the boys are getting shot up by that German Machine Gun Nest, a brave and bold Private First Class was instructed to wait til they come up with a plan to allow them and several Platoons to get past that point. The PFC stormed the Machine gun nest and took out two of the 3 machine gunners and their Fire Team while another brave soldier took out the third... The US Army has a Basic Training requirement that requires entire companies of basic trainees to crawl a few hundred Meters while being fired on by automatic pneumatic 249 machine guns which gives soldiers the feeling of what being shot at feels like. It was based on that US Army Private First Class who was immortalized by that training requirement which ultimately separates the strong willed from the weak willed. I was scared so bad that my battle buddies and drill Sergeants reminded me that a brave Private stormed the real machine gun nest, guts in hand to ultimately change the course of the Battle of Normandy which gave me the courage to jump from that trench and crawl like my life depended on in (Which it did). Never have I ever watched a Drill Sergeant walk away, ever so silent from me, to get a quick cry session that made me cry because I had ultimately pushed myself past my fear and eventually, I graduated. Bravo 2-47, Alpha company of 2015, Fort Benning, Georgia, Panthers never Quit. And til this day when all hope is lost for me, I look back at the impossible challenge that was towering over me, now a mere story that will be passed on generation to generation til my very last breath. Honestly, I really feel happy that what I want will save lives in two fronts. Back home, my family gets a steep check from the Army which will help them for several years and saving my battle buddies and dying in glorious combat! A dream I want made reality for sure... I wanna die knowing that my brothers and sisters can make it back home to their families and their children!

I read that Conkers Bad Fur Day was one of the very first games planned for the N64 and it was intended to be a lot more childish and cutesy. But development was tough and problematic and they were outpaced by the 3D platformer games that dominated the industry and shaped the N64 into what it is, like Super Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie. Alas it was decided that there were too many platformers that are targeted towards children. And so instead of scrapping what they already created the devs decided "If they want a mature game, they'll get a mature game" and turned cutesy Conker into a narcissistic, sarcastic alcoholic. Poo mountain for instance was originally supposed to be a chocolate mountain.

British? How dare you, Father Ted is Irish. I know not a lot of people don't know this but the reason that and Mrs Brown's Boys (two of our biggest sit coms) are British produced was due to lack of funding in the 80's and 90's on RTÉ's part. We own the licences now but they still are associated with Channel 4 due to their starting place for funding. They were also meant to do another reference to the beloved short lived classic with a joke on Doogle originally with how you got your weapon (the small and far away joke is most likely the one they would've taken) for the sentient key. Also! The weasel Don (his whole sthick and character) is a reference to The Godfather, the Don that Mickey took over from is the character he's a reference to (cannot remember his name it's been a while). Alas, Rest in Peace to both Frank (who played Father Jack) and Dermoit (Ted's actor. He died from cancer which is why it sadly only had 3 seasons.)

I think the problem was it came out pretty much near the end of N64 life cycle, everyone was already hyped for new consoles and didnt care for games for old consoles + the lack of marketing and promotion for the game also didnt help. I guess nintendo wanted to remain the "family friendly" system so it shied away from promoting this game. The remake on xbox did the same mistake by also releasing it near the end of xbox life cycle. Also the remake wasnt as good as original + it was more censored. Overall the original game actually had good reviews (a lot of 9s) and most people that played it also loved it but vast majority of people never even heard of the game so it didnt sell well even though it was overall a great game. Also a shame it never got a sequel because the sequel was actually in the works but it got cancelled.

I think know a reference that wasn’t listed. When Fangy walked out of the gate, reminded me of the scene where the rancor does the same thing in Star Wars return of the Jedi.

I just re-started playing this game. Man I remember when this came out in ‘01 when I was three. I called it “Qwuanka” lol

5:45 immediately reminds me first ever level of Sonic Adventure (1999), Emerald Coast. Might be an influence here.

Seriously, Conker is pretty much Rare's Duke Nukem in more ways than one. -Both started for kids, but their most prolific game was when it went adult. -The adult-oriented games are FILLED with so many movie references. Hell, they both reference Indiana Jones and Terminator.
