Connect A DVD Player To A TV-How To (Tutorial)

In this video, I show you how to connect a DVD player to a TV. It is a simple process and you basically have to use a cord to connect the output ports of the DVD player to the input ports of the TV. This allows the DVD player to send the audio and video signals to the television, and display them on your screen! Make sure that you turn the TV to the appropriate input source if you want the DVD video to show up on your TV!

Insignia TV there are a few DVD Players that have HDMI input to the TV do you still have to connect the color coded cables even if has HDMI input to the TV

I'm glad you asked that question. I have a Insignia TV with 2 HDMI Ports and a Dvd Player with a HDMI port. I got a HDMI cable and connected the cable from the TV to the Dvd Player. I get picture but no sound. I thought that HDMI was supposed to have picture and sound? What could i be doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

​@Brandon-md9srThe blue connection is for Componet video and is paired with Green and Red. Componet video can do high definition video. DVD players can only go up to 480p with Componet.

would be helpful for context to understand...why are there 6 output options, but yet you said 'we're only going to connect the bottom 3'? Then what are the other top 3 for? Also, you said 'or we can just connect the S-video'.... so again, what's the difference... and why did you opt to connect the bottom 3 vs. just the S-video'? Do they require different connection cables and what are the pros/cons if any? Thanks.

The other outputs from the DVD player would most likely be for playing the sound through a sound system amplifier/speakers. They will just be red & white cables for the sound. The 3 he's using are red & white for sound & yellow for video all in one row for easiness.

Well I have a Sony DVP-SR210P and a Toshiba Flat Screen TV, there are blue and green ports as well. When I do connect the red, white and yellow to the red white and yellow I get a picture with no colour?

What the heck do I do if the connections on the TV are different to the cable to connect it? I have two input ports on the tv. One blue and 1 yellow. The yellow port is obviously for the DVD player because it says so. So I’m thinking I need another kind of cable to connect the cable from the DVD to the GV. Any ideas ? Help!!

There is Composite video (Yellow), S-Video (Round connector with 4 pins) and Componet video (Green, Blue, & Red). These are paired with 2 cables for sound (White & Red). Composite video is the worst way to Get video and Componet is the best (for most DVD players). Look at the back of your TV again and get a better look.

I need to know if you have a HDMI cable is that all you need to hook up your DVD player? I have a Vizio and there's only a red and white cord attached to the television you have three chords plus an HDMI cord Should I only use the HDMI cord? Because Vizio televisions don't work like other TVs

Not all DVD players have a HDMI port. If you does, then use it. If the only RCA connections on your TV are white and red then that should be for audio out and should be labeled out as such. Your TV might not have the older anolog connections showed in the video.

Did you go to menu on the TV and set it to AV? You have to keep guessing with the plugs...plug it in any socket while watching the screen AS I DID..LMAO

I would check like Sonny brand VCR and there is a code to place on your remote control which is what I will do. So check Google for different VCR brand codes to connect to the TV. Good luck to me - if I can get it to work this time. Good luck to ALL!

That was a damned nightmare!! NOWHERE on this tv does it tell me where audio and video go in!! I see all the digital "outs" on the dvd player but not on the tv...I just had to keep at it til I finally saw picture! Then figure out which socket was the audio ugh..and also make sure in the menu it was set to AV or I would still be struggling right now!!!
