Thanks for that Adrian. I'll be switching to airplane mode on the moment we board the ship and that's the way it will remain until we step off the ship at the end of the cruise. Nice outtakes.

I have not been able to take a 20-day cruise yet but I was hopeful the internet would go down per day if I did! That doesn't sound like it did :-( it sounds like it's the same per day whether you take a 3-day or a month-long cruise that's ridiculous

I'm going on a Princess cruise next year, and they want to charge $60 a day for beverage plus internet. I am looking for alternatives to these ridiculous prices. I wonder about purchasing a satellite "star link" service that would allow me to access shipboard internet but from the outside.
@TheCruiseandTravelGuy Жыл бұрын
In isolation, the Princess Plus package is actually great value for what it offers, but only if you were already considering a drinks package to begin with. If you prefer not to book a drinks package, then go for Princess Standard and then I believe you can add internet at a cost of around $15USD per day, but you would need to look into that with your travel agent/Princess directly.

I will add that we have had some cruises where a one-device plan worked on more than one device by logging on/off; however, msc (my next cruise) appears to be blocking that now. I have a phone that hotspots wifi signal so that will be my alternative. Otherwise, a travel router would be necessary to share the signal.

Yes! This is a very confusing subject especially for some of the older generation passengers (of which I am a gold card member). You did a really god job with your explanation. The issue I have is when on shore and switched airplane mode off so I can connect to my mobile provider, I then go back on board, turning airplane mode back on, but find I have to re-log into the ship's app to connect to the ship's WiFi. Is the s normal? I feel that the app should connect automatically if I have not changed any of the WiFI settings while on shore.
@TheCruiseandTravelGuy Жыл бұрын
Thanks Les, tried to be clear and concise but it's a fairly complex topic. Hmm, I found myself having to log back into wifi onboard a few times as well. I think this might be the nature of the onboard wifi system over any particular settings on your phone or device.

I saw a video about taking a travel router aboard, connecting it to the Wi-Fi package and then sharing the connection via the router. Never tried it but I bought one and will test on an upcoming cruise this month.

Thanks for the video. I cruise quite a bit in the Caribbean but this summer I am cruising around Japan. For the first time I am going to use an eSim for internet while I am in port. My only fear is that when I switch to airplane mode while on the cruise ship and turn it off on land will my phone pick up my home network or the eSim network. Any tips with that???
@TheCruiseandTravelGuy6 ай бұрын
I used an eSIM while travelling in Japan and other countries recently. Your phone won’t pick up your home network. Make sure you pay attention to the instructions on the eSIM setup - you need to ensure that mobile data roaming on your home network is switched off. All will be covered during setup but if you have any queries you can contact the eSIM provider.

I have a T-Mobile hotspot device. Will it work on msc cruises?
@TheCruiseandTravelGuy Жыл бұрын
What does that device connect to? A cellular network, or a wifi network? If you need it to connect to a T-Mobile cell service, then no I don't think it will work. You should enquire with T-M to be sure.

EVEN if you purchase the wifi package on the ship, you lose service when you go on the islands in Caribbean. You then need to pay for roaming as well as the ship package or purchase a Caribbean SIM CARD which is cheaper than roaming with your network. You will have a different phone number though. Is this correct?

That’s correct - ship wifi only works on the ship, not on shore. If you purchase a new SIM card, it’ll have a different phone number attached. It’s a completely new service, and has no relation to your existing SIM card or service from home.

@TheCruiseandTravelGuy Жыл бұрын
Hi Patricia. Like sailing domestically in Australia, once the ship reaches a certain point, it will be very difficult to get a reliable signal with your mobile phone provider. If you do need a reliable internet connection while onboard, wifi is your best bet.
