I am very happy for you all. Just a quick note with your fans... you will or should have better circulation if one of the fans was on the ground. Meaning hot side fan in the upper is a great spot, but the other from colder cabin should be on the ground. You will get a stronger exchange of air flow. Anyway I am glad you guys can do what you do.
@HanbleceyaRanch10 ай бұрын
Thank you! 😊 I see what you are saying but typically we put the fan on depending on the stove we have going (pulling from the kitchen or den). We would need an upper and lower going both ways (and keep the hallway clear). So far the way we have it setup works well but if we need to push cold air out we can turn on ceiling fan in that room and it moves the air around enough. It is something to look into if we have issues in the future! Thanks for the tip!👍

I also cook on a Baker’s choice wood cook stove. I agree with you on log cabins; as beautiful as they are they require a ton of maintenance and as we age that could become problematic. Our home is a three module modular home and we added large porches across the entire structure front and back: serves to keep most of the house free from the elements and also provides nice entrances, the front is a deck and the back is stone where we have all the cooking wood stashed.

This is the first video of yours I have watched. I noticed the name of your ranch is taken from the Sioux word for the vision quest and your animals are given Lakota names. I am an 81 year old American woman who currently lives in France. However, I am a native Coloradan and for about 12 years is was a member of a group of individuals who studied and practiced the Lakota Sioux culture and red road. We went for about 8 years to the Cheyenne River Reservation to attend sun dances at Green Grass under Grandpa Sidney Keith and I attended two lowampi ceremonies at Eagle Butte. All of us did hanblecya at one time or another and several of our men sundanced for 4 years. I am curious as to where you got your relationship with the Sioux.
@HanbleceyaRanch10 ай бұрын
Welcome to the channel!! You are correct…all of our animals and our ranch are Lakota names. My husband and I were married on the arm of the CrazyHorse memorial back in 2010. My husband had been to the memorial with his father (who had passed away) and it always had a special place in his heart. We had planned a family trip out there and decided it would be the perfect spot to get married! When we were trying to think of a name for our ranch we decided that since it all began on the arm of the memorial we would continue honoring that and it continued with the animals we have brought into the family. We feel this homesteading journey we are on is our hanbleceya! ♥️

So country, primitive and cabin!! Love them, good job Jen! The Island sounds like it’s gonna be wonderful too. And pantry will be so nice, wow you guys have done so much nice work. Yeah a wall will definitely look good to hide your hanging clothes from the den, but hey if it works now, no rush, right? 👉🏻Jason, get her done before summer 😂😂😂 Kidding! Well kinda lol The porches is another one of my favorite, I’ve told ya before I’m a porch freak, lol. Love ‘em! But I think I’d take the front porch to the end of bathroom corner, so the middle could be wider/deeper for a table n chairs 😜 I know, I was just saying! You can get more insulation going shed to cabin than a log house. 5 years ago I built my last regular log cabin down state. Code requires a R 20 now in wall. You can get logs split and insulate and glued back together but price is higher. And never has anyone asked about them. Nice stove. I like shelves better than cabinets.
@HanbleceyaRanch10 ай бұрын
We have no building codes in our town so we were able to do our cabin the way we wanted it. If we had R 20 in our walls we would have to open all the windows when the wood stove is on. Bet that splitting the logs is expensive! We love our stove, it works great for us!! The open concept throughout the cabin is exactly what we were looking for!!😊

I told him it would have four exterior walls and no interior walls. He said, "So it would be an open floor plan"? And I said yep wide open. He said, but you would have bedroom walls? And I said nope, wide open. He said, "But you would have bathroom walls..." And I said nope, wide open. I went on to say "I want my company to know there will come a time when they need to leave"!!

I was curious about the name "Hanbleceya" ? I may be wrong but is that the word Native American Indians use when praying for dreams or visions. I had a friend who was part Lakota and she mentioned a word like that once and it stuck in my brain for some reason.

@DanB-ei8br Hanbleceya is a vision quest for Lakota Sioux. We were married on the arm of the CrazyHorse memorial. Since that was where it all started we wanted to honor that by naming our homestead and our animals Lakota names. This is our vision quest!😊

Nice video and very nice layout. My future plans after I retire later this year is to get myself around 20 - 30 acres and set up a small "off grid" cabin. I never thought of having the stoves in the middle of the room, It's now another choice for me to make. Also, I love the idea of the walls not going to the ceiling and using barn doors to save space. Oh, and that small wall you build near the entry that separates your living room was a smart idea.
@HanbleceyaRanch9 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind words!! My husband, Jason spent months sketching out the plans for our cabin. Good luck on your retirement. Sounds like you have a good plan. The stoves setup the way they are lets the heat radiate all around the stove. We knew we didn’t want the walls to the ceiling so that the heat could go into the other rooms. The ceiling fans help to move the heat around. I like the look of barn doors but they do also save space. The wall by the entry came to be mainly because we needed a place to put our jackets, so Jason brought out his sketchbook and designed it. It works great. A bit of privacy in the living room and a place to put our jackets. You have to get creative with the space you have and Jason has done a great job doing just that!! Have a great night!😊

I did the same thing with the little fans near the ceiling. I'm in a small 1930's built house with original metal kitchen cabinets, and no central air. I use a small a/c and Mr. Heater in the living room. I have a little fan at the top of the doorway aimed at the kitchen, and another fan at the top of the bedroom. I heat and cool this 800 sq ft place with just those two. It works even better now that I have insulation under the house (with landlord's permission) that I paid my neighbor to do.

First time seeing one of your videos. Looks amazing. Only suggestion is to move your co meters down closer to floor level. By the time those go off you may not be able to hear it. Enjoy.

Thanks for the cabin tour, looks good. As for the internet, I assume it's a satellite disk? How's the signal? Hopefully, it's under $100 per month. I'm paying $55 per month now and I'm hoping that be will the case when I'm in Maine. Thanks.

If it were me, I would make a hinged screen to hide your utility corner. You could make it from a couple used doors, or make a wood frame and cover it with some type of cloth.
@HanbleceyaRanch9 ай бұрын
Both of those ideas are great! They also still allow easy access to that area in case of any issues!! 😊
@user-knucklebuster2839 ай бұрын
I would suggest using wood shutters to "close in" that area. that would allow air heat to circulate where that is a clod area. @@HanbleceyaRanch

Depending what route you want to go , you can Buy land reasonably cheap the further north you go $1500 an acre . Do you want off grid? Do you want to live in a place closer to hospitals? Millinocket, Houston , presque isle , of closer to ocean Down east as they say ?

Ya, I'd prefer off grid. I've lives in Alaska before, but it's just to expensive anymore. I want to take the snow machine out to the lake and do ice fishing and take the boat out during the warmer time of year. Within 30 minutes of a town with resources as groceries and such. That's a quick description of what would work for us. Any advise, is appreciated

I live in southern Maine and would love to buy some land up north and put one of these shed/cabins on the land. How do things like building permits and insurance work with these?
@HanbleceyaRanch6 ай бұрын
Well I suppose it depends on where your land would be. In our area there are no permitting. As for insurance, it’s as easy as calling any one of the insurance companies up here and setting it up. Hope that helps and best of luck!!! 😊
