Thank you for your clear explanation. I am really struggling with the mechanics. It's immensely helpful to have your videos to refer to.

i did really well at maths at GCSE but when it came to Alevel i felt useless. I got a U on mechanics 1 twice (dont ask how) and thought third time lucky, i think everyone lost faith, but finding these videos has helped so so much. Just recently got a B on my resit mock. so happy, going to keep practicing and watching these videos til I get that A! So thank you so so much, what you're doing is really great!

great video, thanks a lot, only thing is, how would you go about working out the answers if the string was extensible and/or the pulley was rough? you would have more than 2 unknowns..?

How would you be able to tell which particle would move up or down for this? Is it just the masses?
@arvin390

It doesn't really matter which direction you pick, if you picked the wrong direction, you'd still get the same value for acceleration, just negative.

why we didn't consider the normal reaction on the pully if it is inclined?

In OCR M1 would we ever be asked a question with a rough pulley or an extensible string?

*maths would you ever consider incorporating the ccea syllabus? It's very similar although there irate different moments questions. There's not much online for ccea and it would be fantastic if there was something like what you do, just a thought

how comes particle A uses the equilibrium method but for particle B you used f=ma ???
@ExamSolutions_Maths

Simply put, the sum of forces that are perpendicular to the motion of the particle is equal to zero.

I'm a little confused to where I might have went wrong. I got T-6.79+2gSin30+2a Then I got T= 6.79+2gSin30+2a Substituting that into 4g - T = 4a got me 4g - 6.79+2gSin30+2a=4a Taking away 2a from both sides give me 4g-6.79+2gSin30=2a which is then 39.2 - 16.59 = 2a 22.61 = 2a a = 22.61/2 i got a as 11.305 Help me out please although Im going to redo the question and If anything changes Ill remove this comment or post another one
