Hi, the SLT 130 mirror is too low down in the tube to get the correct focal length for prime imaging. However, you can get thumb screws from amazon which will allow you to move the mirror further up the tube so that the focus is farther out. After you've done that conversion, you might need a barlow without a lens to get a lens to focus, but the telescope will then work for both. The SLR is one way of sensor imaging, but after the focal length is fixed, you can also use a Celestron Neximage which has an imager with a far higher pixel density than an SLR. Switching between the two gets you to different levels of zoom for prime imaging. The reason why I wanted to go with prime imaging was because I got a blue tinge on the images when I used a lens. With prime imaging, there's nothing except mirrors between the sensor and the moon, planet, star, or star system.

Hi, thanks for sharing this video. I'm just starting on putting together my passions on photography and astronomy, and it's very informative. I have a question that perhaps you can help answer. I've starting looking around for the T-ring and T-adapter, and was told that I shall need a T-adapter specific for my telescope. Is it so? Following the link you shared on ebay, and similar ones, I had thought that all I need to make sure is that it fits my telescope's eyepiece diameter. Thanks in advance!

Hi, i have a 130 astromaster and i've could not get focus with the cammera yet. Could you tell me the list of pieces you use and how to do it? I tried to use a 2x barlow but didn't work. In the cam screen i see the primary mirror reflected and repeated 3 times. Thanks for help.
@AndrewOliverHome9 жыл бұрын
If you fit the threaded 1.25" adapter that you removed from the focuser directly into the t-adapter, missing out the entire eyepiece projection assembly, you should be able to get the sensor close enough to achieve prime focus. With no glass in the optical train you get zero chromatic aberration and a nice wide field view.

This is an excellent video, thanks for sharing. I have one question. I have the exact same telescope but the focuser is very loose, e.g. it moves up on down easily when the top screw is not screwed tight and when I try to focus. Great information. Really appreciate you sharing this with us. I've thought about getting a telescope and wondered how hard it would be to hook up my DSLR. Have you been able to take any perfectly sharp pictures with the 6 lens? I'm guessing the atmosphere makes it hard.
@scannerguy196810 жыл бұрын
I've tried but shakes quite a bit with even a 10 sec delay. Need to wait for no wind and get a remote shutter and a person might be able to get a good shot. I've only hooked it up a couple times. Might do more before the summer is over. If you get a telescope don't skimp. This one is ok but could be better.

You're a very lucky man. The atmosphere where you are sounds awesome. The birds going, calm, no traffic sounds. I bet you get some real fucking killer views there. Sadly for me here in the UK light pollution is heavy where I live. I can get a decent view of most things but it would be great to have no light pollution. There are areas of the UK where there is next to no light pollution as they're reserve areas of the country for no build development and maybe one day I'll go there and take my Orion SkyQuest XT10g, that'll be a ball ache for sure but I'm sure one worth it. I appreciate the video.

Your video shows your LCD being used to focus the moon. I noticed your doing this around dusk. Can you focus with the LCD after sunset when the sky is dark? I haven't been able to use my Canon LCD to focus. Thanks!

+alan whitson Actually I used the scopes focuser. May have been fiddling with the screen at the same time though.
@alanwhitson60646 жыл бұрын
I apologize, I didn't phrase my question clearly. How did you get your Nikon LCD to SHOW the focus of the Moon as you used the scope's focuser? I've tried every thing i can think of to get my Canon LCD to display the Moon and nothing works. My son who is a photographer thinks it's because my scope has an f11 f-stop which doesn't allow enough light in to display the Moon on the LCD. I can see the Moon in the camera eye piece but not the LCD. Frustrated!

what is the max outer diameter of eyepieces that you can slide inside
@scannerguy19688 жыл бұрын
+Greg Kopanczyk Think the standard 1.25" The bottom extension on my eyepieces just fits through the bottom which locks it in. So as long as the silver extension piece is standard you'd be ok. The tube itself has room but unsure if 2" would work

Hey, nice video. Gonna ask you about t-ring. It will be enough if I order only t-ring? You know I mean DSLR+T-RING+DOBSONIAN (without t-adapter and stuff). Thanks
@scannerguy19689 жыл бұрын
Rámí Al-Omari I know I can't just put the Nikon to the scope itself on a reflector. Think the focal length is too long. Camera cannot get close enough to the secondary mirror to focus. So you need the extension tube and an eyepiece. basically can't run it prime with a reflector I do believe. If that helps answer the question anyways.
@slap_my_hand9 жыл бұрын
+Rámí Al-Omari If you got a skywatcher dobson, the 1,25" adapter can screw off, and you can attach the T - ring directly to the wide piece of the adapter. I don't know if your camera will focus that way, because it depends on the distance between the sensor and the place where the T - ring goes. If you have one, then you can just buy the T - ting and try if it works, and if it doesn't work, you can buy the whole other stuff. And if you don't have a skywatcher dob, then you have to buy at least all the stuff from the video.
