You installed the pipe upside down. The male end needs to be facing down so creosote tar drips back down into the box.

Yep, I made the mistake of installing my pipe upsidedown like you did, for the same reason you explained. My pipe even had a sticker showing the proper direction of flow, but me knowing so much, thought it was wrong. Half way through the year creosote dripped all down the outside of my pipe. Then sparks were flying off it every time I drafted my stove and got the pipe hot. Be safe brother. Good video

Think about the condensed water vapor inside the pipe draining back down. That's why the direction of the crimps matter.

doing it the way he said creosote get on the outside of pipe n stove fire hazard then

Here's a comment. You're quite right to ask that folk resist the temptation to criticise your efforts. It's easy to make those kind of comments from the sidelines. You put yourself out there and I daresay if any of us did the same, without editing out our mistakes and fuck ups, then we'd be just as often open to that kind of comment. I know I would...probably more frequently. The stove pipe would fall on my head too. Your postings are informative, real and often very funny. You don't cut out all the mistakes and you often do stuff that makes me concerned for your safety, but it's your absolute right to do it the way you want to. At least you've got the guts to let it all be seen. That's one of the things that make it such engaging content. The videos are about finding out and exploring, not about perfect text book instruction. There are legions of those on KZbin and many of them are deeply boring. So here's a fulsome apology bud, for making unasked for comments about the way you work. In my defense, I have never done so before and I was just momentarily concerned for your health. You're a grown up, and its not my business how you decide to do stuff. If you didn't have those moments when it goes kinda pear-shaped, it wouldn't be the thing it is. So you just carry on and we'll continue to be entertained by it, and maybe learn a thing or two. Greetings from Scotland.

Is it really your first fire? I would call setting the stove and floor on fire the first one

I have a similar stove - smaller fires work well - usually go with about 3 sticks of hardwood for coals - nice job on the stove - thanks for the videos - planning on a container fab hopefully soon

thanks for Posting, I'm looking at installing an older woodstove in my 40x8x8 shipping container through wall, not roof. I want to insulate it from the outside with 2 inch Rigid foam and metal sheeting siding on top of that. Old man says to just use a couple of $20 stove pipe (single wall) connections and go out the wall (similar to your project). Studying online tells me to buy double wall piping. DuraVent sells stove pipe kit (double wall) $400, also need chimney kit $500, and actually chimney pipe $150. Possible air intake pipe from outside as well. Woodstove specialty store recommended new efficient 2020 EPA standard woodstove, quoted me $3.5K for Blaze King (catalytic combustor) "cleaner" woodstove and 1.5K for stove / chimney piping. I'll be sleeping inside a couple days a week during winter to work at my start up Orchard - off the grid farm - , where I would convert container to tiny home, so I'm leaning towards double wall piping / stainless steel chimney / pipe. I'll wait on the Blaze King $3.5K stove until some money comes in from orchard.

Honest question about condensation on really cold days. We get single digits from time to time. Any real condensation or does it get dried out by the woodstove.

cool thing (no pun) is no heat shield required with a metal wall. In case someone leaned or stumbled against it i wonder what companies have products to donate that could keep a forearm or hand from sizzling on a naked hot wall .
@pmm4226 жыл бұрын
tinfoil honest to goodnes will reflect all the heat back and that wall will stay cool.

Chimney pipe will have to go with the corrugated bit to the bottom. Reason being is any creosote buildup (which is smoke cooling and condensing on the relatively colder pipe) will run down the inside of the pipe and will be contained inside. If you put the corrugated bit up top you will find the creosote (hugging the inside surface) leaking out past the corrugated bit, creating a mess...

@ObsidianDragon6166 жыл бұрын
putting up a heat repelling wall of some sort should help with the wall not getting so hot... any way at least it will double as an area to dry stuff and a potential cooking spot if the top gets hot enough.

Hi dan, just a heads up creosote is going to drip down your pipe with the crimp ends up you don't have to worry about smoke the draft will take care of that so I would recommend you flip the pipe around or you will get a real sticky mess coming out of your pipe!!!!

Why not go right to the wall? Give yourself more space and heat the wall wich gives you more heat .
@annpendergrass25466 жыл бұрын
As a country girl raised with a coal and wood stove. I strongly advise you to place it a distance from your work area. Them stoves put out some heat and in that container babyyyyy, You will wish you had taken my advice. Just saying.
