Connecting an Overflow Hose to my Water Butt!

Great solution. I have a similar problem but, because most of my garden is above the level of the water buts I have to let the surplus go down the drain. I currently also have about a dozen buckets and plastic containers overflowing around the garden. Unfortunately come next summer’s inevitable drought I know these will be rapidly emptied and I will be praying for rain.

My advice in future would be to buy some 40mm push fit waste pipe and a tank connector so you can run it into the nearest drain if you have one. That way if the tank gets overwhelmed during a heavy downpour it’ll be less likely to overflow as the diameter of the pipe will be able to carry more flow rate. Think when I did mine I used a 48mm hole saw for the tank connector itself because the thread was slightly larger than the pipe connection. Best of luck 👍🏻

Sounds like a great idea! Thanks for the tip 🙂 the hosepipes didn't really work so I've bought some bigger pipe that should work a bit better so will be redoing the video soon hopefully! I will definitely be adding holes as you've suggested to help spread out the water a bit!

No worries - the hose pipes didn't work very well in the end - not enough pressure for the water to flow out so I'm going to be replacing it with a single larger flexible hose!

You need to connect another water butt to it with a connector pipe. Boom !

The filter is great. Do you not get damp with the butt so close to your wall? I have three and my largest one a freebie from a neighbour which is full I stupidly forgot to raise it? I cant get a watering can under it now 🤦🏼‍♀️

Luckily we don't seem to have any problems. The drain wasn't working when we moved in so the water was all just coming out right next to the house so I'm trying to direct it away a bit - I need to add something else so it keeps up when it's raining heavily too - which it has been a lot lately! Sounds like you've got a fair bit stored up 🌧️ That's annoying! Could you dunk a can in the top to fill it up?

Where did you get the right angle connector from?

I got it from ebay: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166198613352 I had to get an adapter as well to make it fit the hose pipe connector: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262188717502 Though the hose pipes aren't doing a very good job of taking the water away🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm going to redo it soon and replace it with some of that bigger black corrugated plastic pipe!
