You should use those walls you cut out, as a lil skirt for your containers. It'll keep the rats out, and keep your containers cooler. Just cut small louvres at the tops of a couple for ventilation.

I'm a carpenter so I could really pick this apart lol but you guys should have used pressure treated lumber cause the kind you used is going to warp,bend and twist soon. Also make sure to use galvanized screws/nails so they don't rust. Just a few tips,if you have any questions I'll be glad to help

It’s not touching the ground. It doesn’t need pressure treated lumber for that use. Also the nails/screws aren’t in the elements they are under the floor. They did fine with this.

Floor looks great just a tiny bit of advice for you put the insulation in now before you put down the subfloor cause the less amount of time under the house is so much better for you I know that advice sucks but I'm a general contractor and I built probably close to 200 homes and 15 high rise buildings believe me being under there with tools suuuuuuuccckkkssssss

I am an electrician by trade, I am also a carpenter and cabinet maker. Over the years I have picked up plumbing, having finished the house my wife and I finished ourselves. My wife does dry wall and tiling. She did our kitchens and bathrooms. We did most of our home in porcelain, granite, marble and hardwood. My hobby is hot rods, building and painting. I have a question, I have stick and tig welders. What are you using for welding jobs on your containers? The corrugated metal probably needs mig, what are you using? What are the requirements for wiring? I suspect EMT, or BX. Couldnt find any references in our electrical code. We are planning a container house, to downsize our life. When cutting out the sides of containers, you need to be really careful that the piece doesn't drop and then fall back inside or otherwise, fall in an uncontrolled, cutting someone pretty seriously. One way to do this is to leave a few inches uncut on either side, at the bottom, and cut out the rest, push the top out, so that it falls and then cut the strips keeping it attached at the bottom.

She is very pretty, i connected two 2 story sheds at my place each cost 11k cut the walls off one side on each and connected added supports for the second floor, its like a mini house. :) (230 acres)

You should have framed it by mounting boards onto the containers with joists hangers the containers will have movement over time

Nice video. 2 thoughts, it would have been easier to cut the lip down before you added the floor joists and 2nd if you had opened the distance between the shipping containers to the standard width of dimensional lumber you would have cut down on the amount of saw work needed and you would have gained a little more square footage on your new home. Beyond those little things I love the idea of the shipping containers, it is a super idea!

Nice to see you guys tackle this. Our friends let us stay on their ranch and we built a very similar setup. Patience is key, set daily, weekly goals and adjust as needed.Windows and doors through metal were challenging but when done really assisted with air flow. I was in shipping containers for apx 6yrs. Made a few, container and a half ones(,three working doors).Learnt alot on the first one,especially re; joining and welding the roofs together. We have made a restaurant and one swimming pool,many for a gov grow opp, as well as countless projects for Hydro, mining and industry. My first weld,mod, was a 40 foot for grain, I made a 14ft by 3ft raised hinged lid. ( He wanted a ten ft separate room with a man door an window. His wife was with him when he came to inspect and too one look and said.Guest house!! lol

Looks good! I wouldn't grind another thing on the floor. Use your plywood or osb decking....then overlay the whole floor with a layer of ridgid foam. Let the metal press up into the foam....then screw down another layer of plywood on top of foam. Nice job so far.

Noooooo, Say its not true.... You should have welded square or rectangle tubing not put wood on metal. thats a disaster in a few years. Metal and primed. Is how I do it, it also adds strength and makes the left and right sides into one full unit. Woon in contact with metal invites moisture and will mean more rust on metal and rotting of wood.

I would of cast a level foundation and weld the 2 containers together. Land shifts and sink. The wood center is a futer headache. You can get hard wood but it's hard to work with. The sides cut outs can be used as dividers for kitchen and bath...

Use them for a covered porch. That's what I'm doing with mine. A rooftop patio and use them as a cover/awning to drain water into the garden.
