What a backcourt!!!!! Two Guards that could play on or off the ball. When they first got together they were saying NOT ENOUGH 🏀 for the both of them. All they did was win a title. Earl sacrificed his game for the team but still had PEARL moments when needed.

What a pleasure watching these two gentlemen reminiscing about so many issues as if they were in their living rooms. No third person asking questions that maybe a fourth person thought about. Just two old friends having a calmed beautiful conversation. What a delight for any basketball fan. The first NBA game I ever watched was an all star game. The second game a Knicks-Lakers game I believe the following week. That was around 1972-73 and I became an instant fan of both teams. Thanks fellows for the memories.

2 of my All Time favorites right there! I was just a kid back then, in Kindergarten when the Knicks won their 2nd Title, and still remember watching it live. A lot of people started disliking the Bullets as they moved down the road and became the Capitol Bullets and eventually Washington. The Bullets won a lot of games in the 70's and like the Celtics and Knicks, had a very "authentic" style to them. Looking back, while the Knicks tailed off after '73, the Bullets stayed consistent. First going to the Conference Finals against the Celtics, and the Finals against Golden State (another team with a "authentic" style) and being swept. That was the team (and the year) everyone wished we had "Pearl" because the Bullets were a 2 guard short of giving the Warriors "the buisness", but that's how it went, and the Bullets kept coming back until 1978 and "the Fat Lady" Bullets finally won The Finals and finally the "stink" of Pearl leaving faded into the background. The decade ended with the Seattle Supersonics winning the Championship, crushing the Bullets chances to make history being the 2nd team other than "Boston to go back to back! That hurt, but the Bullets faded and became just another team after that, and my love for them faded to. I eventually became a rabid, Celtics fan (of all teams). I could go on all day about the 80's Celtics, but they are another long comment. hahahahe What a GREAT time it was back then. The players were larger than life! Much larger than todays players. Even though they are seen everyday, and as many times as you want to see them today. The fact that you can see your favorite team, and players everyday, all day, is the biggest reason. Living in Baltimore back when Clyde and Earl were playing, you couldn't see them all the time, even when they were on TV because in Baltimore, we could get the DC channels, but barely. You had to have some large, strong rabbit ears, and in some cases (depending on where you lived and what time the games were played) you still couldn't see them because the station Channel 20 WDCA who carried the local coverage (about 90% of the games were on the road) because Channel 20 was a UHF station and the signal was sometimey. Anyway, to wrap up, Clyde and Earl are 2 of the most classy, well spoken, down to earth, and great Black Men, you just have to listen to those two talk to know that these are some of the BEST we had to offer back in those days, and that means their legacies are just as strong today as yesterday, and I'm proud to look back and know I loved those dudes.

Magic Johnson mimicked Clyde Frazier as his game evolved. Like many inner city youth during that era, Understand that during the 1970’s, the NBA only televised large market teams that featured winning franchises and superstar players. These pioneers featured here along with Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Rick Barry, Bill Walton, John Havlicek, the Seattle SuperSonics, the Chicago Bulls and select other teams. These stars were the role models that were clearly emulated on and off the basketball court. Dress, style, mannerisms, play, speech, mentality, etc. Clearly not emphasized in today’s environment. It is about the salary, exploitation of commodities, winning at all costs, social media coverage, endorsements and selfishness. Rare emphasis on fulfilling the academic requirements of obtaining a college degree. I applaud the professional athletes who contribute to social causes and community service by providing sums of financial resources to charity. It is past time for the sports media and franchises to recognize and pay homage extensively to the past pioneers responsible for the evolution of the modern sport.

These two cats are two of my heroes. As a 12 year old growing up in DC I watched all of the Baltimore Bullets (now Wizards) game on WTTG channel 5. I can relate to Clyde playing on dirt courts in the south and having a tight black community. When I moved to DC at age 12 in 1965 the schools were not segregated. Pearl talking about his mom I also can relate to that because my mom was a single parent. I loved watching the Knicks and Bullets play against each other. Earl and Clyde in the same back court and Dancing Harry LOLO They are right the NBA is now soft and you can't touch anyone. I'm glad I got to see the true legends of the game like Clyde and Pearl.

Wisdom from Clyde right at the beginning. Education, education was the way out. When Clyde and Earl were growing up, they had to struggle to go to a school. The teachers, predominately black, wanted the best for their students. Now entertainment, be it sports or music, seems to be most important.

Everything they said about NYC back in the day was true.. it was the city that never sleeps, Citibank's slogan back then. This wonderful interview exchange between good friends and fellow human beings, that has been presented to the public by two of the greats in basketball who ever played the game, is so enlightening. It would be wonderful if both Walt and Earl could do it again together, with the other remaining teammates of the Knicks and co-players, during those years they played ball in NYC at the Garden, so that the World and young people today, could better understand the true meaning of sportsmanship and team comradery. I was so fortunate and blessed, to have been able to see them perform live on court week after week, game after game for a number of years in Madison Square Garden. The best years of my life!

Earl Monroe, didn't had the pleasure to see Dr. Martin Luther King. But, in 1974 at Madison Square Garden, I had the pleasure to see Earl and Clyde and the rest of the '73 championship squad play a game against the Detroit pistons. I think Dave Bing was playing on that game as well.🙂
