Actually, the Triforce of Courage did have a very big use in Twilight Princess, it's what protected Link within the Twilight Realm and prevented him from transforming into an oblivious and useless spirit, instead changing him into the divine wolf we know of, so it acts as a protective charm, without the Triforce of Courage, Link could have never stopped Zant.

I, uh, REALLY hate rain on your parade, dude, but all the piece actually DO something even when separated. Each person who gets a piece of the Triforce is blessed with their abilities. In one scene in The WindWaker, isn't able to bring himself to attack Ganondorf because his evil aura is literally that powerful. OOT Link's Triforce of Courage had shattered after he left the land of Hyrule, thus, WW Link has to recollect the pieces because it's the only way he can attack Ganondorf. Yes, the Triforce of Courage is literally a morality boost. If this is the case with one piece, then it would undoubtedly apply to others. And another thing, The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II. In the orginal, the Triforce of Wisdom is used to reveal Ganon, who's completely invisible. That, and if the individual Triforce pieces had truly done nothing to their owners, then Ganon would have clearly sought out the Triforce of courage to assemble the Golden Power, but no, by that point it's impossible to obtain since he would literally have to kill himself just to get it. Ganon is just settling for the next best thing, and that is obtaining the Triforce of Power and Wisdom. So essentially, every piece just further advances what you specialize in. The Triforce of Power enables Ganon to become indestructible, turn into an even more powerful Demon-Pig, and the ability to take over the kingdom. The Triforce of Wisdom enables you to transform into completely different person, as well as being able to reveal evil beings. The Triforce of Courage boosts ambitions and resists restraining magic. Also, Ganondorf survived his execution in Twilight Princess, if the individual pieces aren't magical, then please explain that. The real fact is that the *Triforce pieces are just not useful in every situation, as it isn't always necessary*.

If you think about it, The Triforce of Courage does give Link something, it practically turns him into a punching bag with legs. He could be flung from a catapult in a barrel, hit a wall, fall into water from such a great height he should've broken some ribs, and yet, after all of that, he's still able to stealthily go through a fortress full of monsters without so much as a limp.

My theory on this topic is that the separate pieces of the triforce are not useless....they just aren't for what you would think. Its not the triforce being used by its wielders to gain power....its the wielders being used as vessels to keep the triforce safe and keep the world in balance. Allow me to explain (and bear with me, I'm not the best at explaining myself) As we have seen on multiple occasions the triforce splits apart for each other after certain events, yet somehow always ends up in the hands of link, ganondorf, and Zelda respectively. And as well all know if the triforce is united a wish is granted. Now, what if Zelda, link, and ganondorf weren't actually beings having their souls reincarnated over and over again? what if....they were actually the manifestations of each piece of the triforce given sentient form? The triforce of wisdom is meant to lead humanity to prosperity, while the triforce of power is supposed to bring it to ruin and revert it back to its original state. The triforce of courage, however, is supposed to protect the balance of the two, so humanity doesn't get annihilated, while also not allowing it progress to quickly. That would also explains why ganon and Zelda use their triforce or at least have it show a good time before Links triforce comes into play. So ganon is able to wreck shit after Zelda has built up hyrule, but not to the point hyrule is destroyed, rather when its on the brink to set back its progression a bit.That is why he is able to stop ganon even after he has the triforce in hand...because literally is the will of the triforce of courage. That is also why no matter how much time passes, each wielder of the triforce shares similar characteristics and abilities and even the same positions in their respective lives. in fact, the only real issue is the games early in the timeline. mainly skyward sword, a link to the past, and a link between worlds. what makes these games different? because the triforce doesn't really fuse with these three like most other Zelda's. rather, it is more of a genie's magic lamp without a genie but still with the magic. more of a magic item then a almighty force that brings life to everything. that is before it got a will....before the original souls were fused with the triforce aka The great hero Link who brought the triforce together and used it to save the world, Demise the great Darkness who swore revenge for all eternity after being defeated, and Hylia the great goddess who created the items in the first place and wanted to protect her creations for future generations. And that, is what started the supposed reincarnation cycle aka when the triforce first created its representatives of each piece, taking the forms of the wills within them. so what do you all think? feel free to let me know if you like it or feel like I'm full of shit.

+ConnerTheWaffle I have a little addition/improvement to your theory. Ganondorf, Zelda and Link have their abilities within them, it's true. Triforce itself do nothing at all... not exactly. That artifact still functions as a destiny bond for three of "key cards", which are main characters of the series. Triforce's "wish grand" mechanic doesn't work at full if possessed by a single entity. All it gives to Ganon - is much more power, enough to conquer the world and put it in eternal darkness, but it doesn't alters every living being to follow his orders. Ganon lacks of wisdom and courage, where latter makes people to like and follow you. Same with Zelda. Even if she and her family in possess of Triforce, there are still a lot of evil creatures, war and misunderstanding in thier kingdom, people are weak and cowardly. Without Zelda and Link on Ganondorf's side, he can't achieve his wish. Same thing for the Zelda. That conflict leads to numerous reincarnations of these keys, destined to gather up themselves together once again in the endless cycle, in order to liquidate their dissension and reveal ultimate might of Triforce. And here we comes to another part - Link neutrality. At some point of his adventure, the game greets us with Shadow Link duel. At this point, Hero of Time/Winds/etc. loses his neutrality and stands before an important choice: to join either of two factions. Any result will lead to destiny's children to disperse again, or to form an union. The only thing matters is which of the cosmic forces will prevail - creation or destruction.

One case that immediately pops into mind to disprove some of this theory is in Link Between Worlds, where Yuga, thanks to the triforce of power is able ti fuse with Ganon. And the triforce of wisdom is said to grant strong magic abilities, and after Hilda steals it from Zelda, you can see the effects of it straight away.

Actually I believe MatPat concluded something similar as well Waffle. He deduced that the potions in the Zelda world don't have any actual effects, but Link THINKS it's helping them. Both of you concluded that it was the placebo effect, and all this time, Link (and the player) always have the strength within.

Judging by what you said and what I pieced together, the three pieces of the Triforce are given to this who posses the most wisdom, courage and power when their world most needs it. The Triforce is not necessarily giving the user power but instead letting them know that they are the "chosen one" for either destroying, saving, or planning to save the world. It's mostly giving them the information that they are going to be deciding the future of their world in the near future. In receiving that info, they are also acknowledging their future and subconsciously gaining a tiny bit of wisdom, power, and courage. They are also given the ability to react quicker and endure more physical and mental pain than most other people would (that's just my personal thought). The Wind Waker seems to be a special case though. Ganon has been sealed away with his Triforce of power while Zelda and Link have died long ago. The pieces of the Triforce can extend their lifetime by great lengths if they are not mortally wounded but they are not given immortality. Ganon was locked away in the Sacred Realm for some super long amount of time, so he was more imprisoned for an eternity but not killed. Maybe the Triforce of power gives the ability of immortality, with the exception of being killed by the user of the Triforce of Courage or Wisdom (I don't know for sure but it doesn't seem illogical If you consider the several timelines). As you can see from the gameplay of The Wind Waker, Link is not actually the bearer of any piece of the Triforce because he had to undergo actual trials from the Gods to receive the Triforce of power. When the users of the Triforce pieces die, the pieces are sent back to the Gods to eventually decide who gets those pieces. Being that Zelda and Link had died and Ganon was still alive with his piece of the Triforce but not able to use his powers to take over the sacred realm, the two pieces were sent to the Gods to find the next users of the two pieces of the Triforce. When Link was given the Triforce of courage, whatserface was recognized as the person best suited for the Triforce of wisdom (I forget the pirate girls name). Neither of them were strong enough to take down Ganon as they were defeated but Ganon took the other two pieces and put them with his own and put the Triforce together to grant a wish to whomever first touched it in its true form. Ganon was stupid enough to explain his plans to Link and pirate girl and didn't notice the dude (I forget his name too) And the Triforce acknowledged his simple and pure hearted wish. Under the normal circumstances, the powers of the Triforce of wisdom, power, and courage are given when the Triforce senses that the Sacred Realm is soon going to be harmed. The Triforce seems to be both an artificial intelligence and a God.

There's one thing I think you're missing. Transformations. Gandondorf seems to invoke the powers of the TOP to turn into Ganon, the beast. Zelda invokes the powers of the TOW to turn into Sheik, and back again. Link's TOC resonates in TP when he's pulled into the twilight for the first time, and becomes a wolf. Also in the same game, It's implied that Zelda's TOW is why she doesn't become a spirit in twilight, and that she gave it to Midna so she could exist in the light.

Ganondorf cursed the Great Deku Tree by putting a Gohma in it, blocked the Goron mines by blowing up a rock to block it off, and made Jabu-Jabu sick by putting that weird electric anenome boss thing 2. In OoT, with ONLY the Triforce Of Power, he froze Zora's Domain by cursing the Water Temple, released a shadow spirit that was sealed under the well, DESTROYED HYRULE CASTLE AND MADE HIS OWN TOWER, and cursed Death Mountain. 3. Ganondorf said in OoT along the lines of "You were only able to overcome my tower because the Triforce Of Courage rested in your hand!" 4. I agree that the Triforce is really confusing at times and it's powers when separated are not clearly define, but it does not mean it is useless. When the Triforce is separated, the parts go the those who are worthy and are most inline with what the Triforce represents. in other words, Link gets the Triforce of Courage because he is courageous, Zelda gets the Triforce of Wisdom because she is wise, and Ganon gets the Triforce of Power because he craves power. In this way the Triforce is more like a mark of the persons traits and ability. Also, did you mean to sound like a New Agest at the ending there? Because you really did. I've played most of the Zelda games, and I think Courage is the only one to not actually do anything. Vaati trying to get Wisdom from Zelda for its power was the whole plot of Minish Cap, and in the timeline where Ganon didn't get into the sacred realm, he was executed successfully. All courage has ever done on its own is opened a portal for us in Windwaker. Yay?

Small critique: the title isn't actually accurate. The idea of the Triforce Pieces bringing out latent potential in the forms of Power, Wisdom, or Courage I will agree with, but that certainly doesn't make it useless. It's possible, that, without the Triforce, some Link/Zelda or even Ganondorf would never have realized their full Power/Wisdom/Courage, so the Triforce still helps in that it can bring out all of what you can or can't do yourself, and on a side note, great video

I always thought that the Triforce just enhanced their abilities. like in OOT we only heard that the only power that Gannondorf had before he got the Triforce was cursing a tree (pretty lame). but after he got it he could do awsome OP magic, survive a castle collapsing on him, and turn into a giant pig. and Zelda is an exception for most cases since she's practically a fallen goddess, in TP she can use the Triforce to locate Zant's Shard and save Minda's life. link.... can turn into a wolf.

I think that Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf are just guardians of their respective pieces of the Triforce, and their pieces were named after their abilities, or the abilities they grant are forever bestowed upon them and only them. In Wind Waker, Link's hand had the Triforce, but he still had to search for the pieces of it.

well the lore itself states that the tiforce pieces choose wielders who most strongly represent that particular piece. meaning that yes, all of them already had those traits to start with. all the triforce does is choose the one who it's bound to and unlocks their potential. all the actual power, courage, and wisdom comes from within the person themselves. so yeah, basically i agree with what you said ^^;

In my opinion, the only piece of the Triforce is the Triforce of Power. It made Ganon's magic at least twice as strong, made him invulnerable to standard weapons, and allowed him to transform himself into a pig demon at will.

MY theory is that Ganondorf was innocent all along. And he was almost sentenced to death, WITHOUT any proof. So the sages chained Ganondorf up a stone slab, and impales him with a sword. And Ganondorf was only trying to help his Gerudo people, but king Rhoam of Hyrule left them alone. And Ganondorf was NOT a true villain yet. And he was almost sentenced to capital punishment for no good reason, and then he escaped and avoid death. And only because two random kids (Link and Zelda), in “Zelda: Ocarina of time”, said he was a MEANIE, and now he’s supposedly ONE?!

The only way to kill him is with a holy weapon, such as the Master Sword, and in Twilight Princess, he impaled with a holy weapon, and still lived. It gave him a weak spot on his stomach, sure, but he survived being impaled by a sword made of light, the element he's weak against.
