I still remember Chaos Black from when I was incredibly young, back in2008 or so. It was the way I found out about rom hacks as a concept and I couldn't help but love it (even going to a game store as a kid asking for a copy one time) and it has a special place in my heart. I distinctly remember it having custom map layouts though, cause route one didn't look like any first route I had played in a pokemon game. Maybe this is just an older version, and since this bootleg was made on a GBA cartridge to cash on the DS (likely in its early years), I wouldn't doubt it.

Not all Russian bootlegs have violent deaths. An example of a gore-less Russian bootleg game which you didn't mention was the Plants VS Zombies bootleg, which is made by the people behind the Felix the Cat bootleg. Let me explain further of what this bootleg is. So this bootleg is a port of Plants VS Zombies, however, the bootleg only has 40% of the Story Mode, so once you beat 2-10, you've finished the whole game. To be honest, it's very faithful to the original game. It has all the plants (well at least the plants from the original game's first 20 levels). I saw gameplay of it on KZbin and the player plotted so many plants that the game was running very slow... it's crazy stuff. The think this bootleg might be easier than the original. The Game Over screen is... well... search it up for yourself. Though I will tell that it's not violent at all. Trust me.

It's not really a clone. I would say it was originally a port. It was originally more of a port. It's a homebrew game made by one guy who made it just to see if he could. It was released on a Nes cartridge in very limited quantities at one of the retro gaming conventions, and then apparently, Chinese bootlegers stole it. The Chinese bootleggers also hacked it because originally, it had the purple pickles from the atari game.

I was disappointed when DS first came out. I was soooo excited for a direct sequel to windwaker. It was fantastic, dont get me wrong.. But the touch controls for many DS games were not my cup of tea. I would have much rather had normal controls for phantom hourglass, but i dealt with it.

Before I was able to get a DS, I would play so many rom hacks of Pokemon Gen 3 on a GBA emulator, so I would constantly be looking for good hacks. Pokemon Ultra Violet is pretty good. It's a combined hack of Fire Red and Leaf Green that puts all the Gen 3 Pokémon into a single game, and gets around the whole trade evolution snag, while also offering several new locations to explore that are made from scratch, AND there's this neat mechanic called Shiny Tiles, where there would be specific tiles to step on that would guarantee the next encounter or hatch would be shiny. There was even an extensive game guide made for it that would walk you through where to find which species, any secrets and also how to get a different starter than Charmander, Bulbasaur or Squirtle, using a secret location behind the lab. It's a really good solid hack, and I'd highly recommend it if you loved the Gen 1 remakes, but felt that it was missing a certain something. I would play this so much on my phone via emulator.
