In this video, we're diving into Connor McDavid's drive wide guide. Whether you're a fan of hockey superstar Connor McDavid or simply aiming to up your game, we've got an exciting formula to share with you.
You might be wondering, what's the secret behind McDavid's net driving success? Hint: it's not all about his speed. There's a strategic approach that sets him apart. And the best part? You don't need to be the fastest skater out there to master this technique.
Let's break it down step by step. McDavid's winning formula begins when he gains possession of the puck between the dots, positioning himself strategically within this zone. Step two involves a crucial move - a crossover or weight shift towards the boards. This creates space between him and the defenseman, a key advantage that you'll witness in action.
But here comes the game-changer: step three. McDavid initiates crossing over towards the defenseman. This isn't just about speed; it's about efficiency and deception. Crossing over proves to be not only faster than regular forward skating but also incredibly deceptive, giving him the edge he needs.
Contrast this with the typical approaches other players take. They might rush straight down from the boards or head directly into the corner, missing out on the strategy that makes McDavid's drives so effective. His pattern starts between the dots, widens out, and he smartly crosses over towards the defenseman, giving him the upper hand every time.
Thanks for tuning in to this enlightening breakdown! If you're hungry for more insights into hockey mechanics and skills, don't miss out on our free training sessions. We've put together an exclusive series of lessons on the Downhill Skating System, the foundation of all hockey mechanics.

I love how he in the clip is doing all the stuff you mentioned and still have time and skill to protect the puck from poke-cheking with perfect timing by conter-poke-cheking defenders stick and deflecting it while the puck still moves toward the goal. Just look at it frame by frame how Muzzin is inchies from the puck with his stick and tries to poke it but McDavid like a fancing champion parries it! Insane!

Thank you for the video. He gains space on the defenseman by letting the puck slight run ahead of him while he is going wide. If he picks up the puck right away while going in the straight line, the defensman still has a good gap control, but that split second hesitation allows the puck to seem to go out of his reach, he skates into the puck while slightly going wide, and this opens up the gap on the defensman. You can actually see the defensman be forced to change edges and balance to line up and try to reset.

I have always been more successful crossing over in different directions towards the net ,because the defence don’t know how to react, only when you get pinched going down the boards unless you punch turn, but you lose your speed but you can still make a pass to your forwards driving to the net ,skating in a straight line is not good at all What do you think 🤔
