Simply learning about that Airtable extension which helps to automatically save logos from social media accounts was a killer time-saver! Thanks so much for making this tutorial.

Perfect timing, thank you so much for this tutorial, really useful and easy to understand (even through at times it goes a little too fast for a beginer)!

This is amazing I've been trying to learn how to build stuff like this. How do you plan to keep the database updated over time? For example if clubs change their hours or something like that.

Hey - great question Alex. I will definitely make a video about this in the future, but not keep you waiting, I have a few plans: 1. My long-term goal is to get the clubs to manage it themselves. I will create a portal that will allow them to self-manage it via an app. 2. I will likely hire a student/someone into running to become a curator for the site and they can sporadically check. This is something I will probably do as soon as I generate the first few dollars for the site. 3. I will add a feature that will allow people to report if info is inaccurate. Overall you need to just need to accept that some info will occasionally be out of date. You just need to put systems in place so that it is easily surfaced.

Great video, thanks! When you populate the CMS fields within Webflow CMS, do you then export them > upload them to Airtable for it to convert them? *I am not a techie so slogging around Webflow and Airtable at the moment

Hi Daniel, Thanks! Yes exactly. After creating all the CMS fields in Webflow, I essentially recreate the fields in Airtable. You can definitely export your CMS and import as a CSV to Airtable to speed up this process, but you can also just add your fields manually. The key thing is that you just make sure that your fields in Airtable are named the same as in Webflow, so when you use something like Whalesync, the fields connect to each other.

Great video. Curious, why do you need airtable and Whalesync? Just inject the data into webflow CMS

Hey - great question. You can definitely do this without Airtable, but I wouldn't recommend it. I will make some more content about this in the future, but when you are pulling data from different sources, you will need to format it and adjust it. This is not easily done in Webflow directly. When I import data in Airtable first, I use AI workflows to format data for Webflow. I also use Airtable as my CRM for reaching out to customers, and this is stuff I don't really want to be storing in Airtable. Thanks for the question!

Thanks Connor.. great guide.. couple of questions regarding the actual directory: 1. does your website have static pages for the next level of details? 2. if yes, then are these created automatically? 3. is there a limit to the number of such listing pages with web flow?

Hey. Thanks for the questions. 1. I assuming you mean the CMS detail pages. I haven’t set them up yet but definitely will. Those pages will contain more details. They are not static pages though, they are the detail pages that come with each CMS collection. 2. See above. 3. I believe you get 10k items as part the basic CMS plan but it scales up to 50k on some of their higher plans

Have you looked at the legal aspect of having a directory site? Privacy, use of copyrighted material such as logo's, site screengrabs etc?

Hey. Good question. I’ll start by saying that I am not a lawyer, so if this is off concern to you building a site, I would definitely talk to them about your specific site. In my case, I have a simple rule: if any of the listings asks me to take down any of their content/logos/images, I’ll do so immediately. I will also not use logos or images when I don’t know the source of the content. If for example I find photos in a Google search, I will not use it for the simple reason that it’s unclear who owns the photos. Another thing worth doing is attributing sources which I am doing/going to do. If for example I find certain content from a Reddit post, that I recycle I will add to the sources. Ultimately, in my mind you need to approach from a perspective that if anyone doesn’t want you using their stuff, you have no right to use it.
