I'm an old f#ck,a veteran of over 100 Dead shows. I am always on the hunt for new music. Over a dozen years ago I had the beautiful luck to run into Bright Eyes and Conor.He and his music has never left me and never will. Love this guy!

Such a great song. Cant believe it's 7 years old now. I remember when this came out and the bright eyes songs seemed old at the time. Now nothing seems that old really. 😅

I love the video! Nice haircut back in 2007! Very accurate! You've been my favorite songwriter since I was in 13 years old in 2005. All of your albums spoke to me in ways that helped me through each phase of my life. I've been struggling with my mental health post college and quite a few hospital visits trying to relearn who I am after feeling so empty and lost. Ruminations was almost TOO spot on for me. Had a few good cathartic cries listening to it. I hope you are well from the bottom of my heart. I used to love you once... and I still do. Your music is fantastic. 🎶 Thank you.

Rachel, you sound like you were/are going through a rough time. You don't need to "learn who you are", especially at such a young age. Who you are will change over the years. Just know that you're not going through anything a million other people haven't been through. Literally. There are billions on this planet. Be true to your own nature, it's yours and unique. Know that everything is impermanent. Be kind to yourself, try to use an inner dialog that reflects love and compassion, especially towards yourself. Take it one moment at a time. That's all any of us really have.

We started drinking the Kool-Aid We were taking the bait We were talking the big talk Never playing it safe Looking good as Jane Fonda On a Vietnam tank You can't get something for nothing Gotta energize your base But she was young enough She was blonde enough She was about a perfect ten Had millions of admirers but not one single friend But it's a, it's a little uncanny What she managed to do Became a symbol for a pain she never knew You know old Ronnie Reagan He was a shoe salesman's son He got himself in the movies Yeah, he impressed everyone He thought trial by fire Was America's fate He made a joke of the poor people And that made him a saint But he was tan enough, he was rich enough He was handsome like John Wayne And there was no one at the country club Who didn't feel the same But it's a, it's a little uncanny What he managed to do Got me to read those Russian authors through and through I miss Christopher Hitchens I miss Oliver Sacks I miss poor Robin Williams I miss Sylvia Plath Every morning's a desert Every night is a flood They say a party can kill you Well sometimes I wish it would But I'll be strong enough, I'll be man enough Oh I'll keep myself in check 'Cause all my friends who flew to town Said that's what they expect But it's a, it's a little uncanny What they managed to do Got me admittin' to things I knew were never true

Reminds me of my own country, Sonia Gandhi and Karunanidhi and other rich people who fooled us into all sorts of problematic ideologies, completely manipulated our indigenous histories and labelled us fascists and naziz and trivialised our current issues. Sonia Gandhi's father himself was an Italian Mason who fought FOR the naziz in ww2. These people are the Jane Fonda and Ronald Reagan of our country. Even our native name is forced to be erased from history over silly aesthetic reasons like "branding". /rant I just came to say thanks to you this song gives me strength. it's relatable. thank you :)))

While Bobby D is staring at his navel and pondering Frank Sinatra, someone else grabbed the mic and wrote a brilliant song that is so relevant. BTW the rest of his stuff is pretty darned good and thoughtful too! One last thing... in the acoustic/live versions it's a "Viet Cong" tank. -Be well and do good!

Mike Marien that's the thing mate, Dylan does w.e, he's got no one to impress
@mikemarien32467 жыл бұрын
So Manny! I guess you from Australia or NZ by the the "mate " thing. Let me say I totally agree in one respect, however in the other... Especially in America right now, I would think that there would more of an upswell in in singer-songwriters right now. Perhaps that may come to fruition in 8 months to a year (as is takes that long to get an album produced). What I was after was that this guy nails it! Perhaps it's time to rethink who we listen to, in terms of speculation on current politics from musicians. Lord knows you have had quite a uhmm "shirt fronting" fool in charge of things down there... This as told to me by an Aussie on vacation in Scotland last year.
