I wonder why he changed the lyrics in the album version. I think it's much more dark and bleak that he obscured the names and wished their death was slow and painful. Conor is the best lyricist in my opinion and I wonder what his thought process was.

Ola Corleone I agree that the album version lyrics were better, but he wasn't wishing them a slow and painful death. The names were in reverse which mans he wants the death to be quick and peaceful. Also it's a little hard to say words backwards live.

I have seen this circulating but I don't seem to find it fitting, or better, I'm not feeling it. My thoughts are he obscured the names because he's implying they've been on the papers, so it could be anyone and the names don't matter, and wishing it was "slow and painful" meaning, the more gruesome the news, the more clicks/hits/sales it makes, because everyone enjoys the sight of a trainwreck. I also believe in the live version, it would have been too dark to wish kids a painful death, not to mention giving them names. However, only Conor can tell, and we are all speculating. All in all, great song. And, thanks for replying. :)

1:11 The names on the album are reversed, as in played backwards. He also says "Hope it was slow. Hope it was painful." The live version he says "Hope it was quick. Hope it was peaceful."
