@SilverSoundAlchemy Жыл бұрын
And unlike so many cameramen of this current era, they actually focus on the right thing! It’s so annoying when cameramen filming Irish dancers film the top half of the body. We’re missing the most important part, their feet!
@maggpiprime954 Жыл бұрын
@@SilverSoundAlchemy I dunno... There were a lot of focusing and framing blunders during the Harknell era of Doctor Who.* I think it really depends on the studio, production (live air has all its warts, with no editing), and operator. There are a lot of variables to consider. A wide shot is easier to frame and focus, even with a moving subject, black & white looks sharper than early colour, different types of film were used in studio vs location, and so on (which explains quality differences in Monty Python sketches). At this point, I can't remember the frame-by-frame, but consider also, that film degradation over time kind of flattens the focus differential (per se), so it's harder for us to tell what mistakes might have been made in something that hasn't been reformatted/cleaned up for a digital medium. The equipment used now is a lot better, reliable, and portable. Live to air will always have an element of "reinventing the wheel," and it's easy to choose the few best bits after the fact, so we shouldn't judge the other 70% against those gems. 🤗 * Which has been restored, reformatted from film to DVD, etc., for modern playback.
@SilverSoundAlchemy Жыл бұрын
@@maggpiprime954 ok so I’m literally talking about when people film Irish dancers for a show or on the news and they film the top half of their body. In Irish dancing, what’s the point? The top half isn’t doing anything! You’re missing “the money shot”, which is the footwork. When filming Irish dancing, I want to see their feet and legs, not their chest and arms which should be upright, straight and not moving. This cameraman got the money shot- they got the dancer moving and dancing and showing what’s important *in Irish dancing* - the movement of the legs and feet. This isn’t ballet or some other form of dance where the top half of the body is moving and expressing, this is Irish dancing, where the movement is only in the legs and feet. My whole point is that the cameraman did very well capturing Irish dancing. Many don’t. I don’t want to see an Irish dancer’s head and not their feet, it’s pointless.

Jaysus! Top tier example of dads & grandpas embarrassing their children in public by suddenly becoming a spaz. I need to study his movements & pass this on to the current generation of new fathers to ensure our children are properly embarrassed like we were back then.
