The old woman at the end had been living in that street since she was ten, way back in 1897, I bet she could tell some tales! I couldn't help but notice the pretty girl behind the old girl singing, she must be around 60 today, I wonder if she has ever seen this recording?

Dublin Fair City, It is the correct name to call this very fine place, The home of the greatest rocker, poet, singer-songwriter, storyteller, the adviser and historian yes Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy fame, The home of the world-famous artist Jim Fitzpatrick, the home of the Dubliners the greatest folk group, the home of James Joyce, the home of George Bernard Shaw, the home of Oscar Wilde, the home of Samuel Beckett, the home of Jonathan Swift, Brendan Behan, the home of, Sinéad O'Connor the home of U2, the home of Kellie Harrington, the home of, Katie Taylor, the home of Croke Park where Co Mayo will win the All Ireland football final in a few days time. KZbin have algorithms that delete perceived toxic, swearing & spammy comments. If your comments are getting deleted, you need to be more creative & express yourself with less negative/cuss words and don't copy/paste/spam the same comment over different videos. Free advice for you.

An example would be to write snaké or fùck with a fada. Now the algorithm will not delete this comment.

Funny how many comments are saying how Dublin has changed so much since then. Yeah, much better health prospects, better standard of living, better job and career prospects, better education and health for our children, better in almost every conceivable measure. And if it’s the immigration people have a problem with? Well, that’s rich coming from a nation of migrants who fled this wonderful country to far flung places all over the world for a better life. Some fled to escape famine. How hypocritical of us not to welcome those who come to Ireland for a better life. I thought we were better than that. Shame indeed
@zakmartin2 жыл бұрын
It's true that Dublin is a lot more prosperous now, more cosmopolitan and with a higher standard of living than it had in the 1970s. Nevertheless it has very much changed for the worse over the last several decades. The character of the city has largely disappeared. The pace of life has accelerated. People walk faster. Traffic lights change more quickly. Everything has been sanitized. Cafe society has disappeared. There are no mad poets or eccentric characters on the streets anymoer. There are CCTV cameras everywhere (the trees in Temple Bar were cut down because they were obscuring the CCTV operators' view). Seats have been removed from locations all over the city to deter people from "loitering". Smoking is banned in pubs. Pub snugs no longer exist. Small, intimate cafes have disappeared (except for the trendy ones with tiny chairs and tables where the food options include muffins and flapjacks, and a pot of tea contains a single teabag). Junk shops are now antique emporiums. Cinemas are multiplex movie complexes. Most of the small bookshops have disappeared. Even getting on a Dublin bus is a completely different experience now than it was when this video was made. There is no chatting with the conductor (because there is no conductor). Buses, shops, restaurants, pubs, cinemas etc., have all become much more impersonal. Dublin was a city that felt like a town. Now it's a city that feels like a city.
