Another jewel. Thx to Periscope Films. The claim early in the video thar using hydrogen was less hazardous than hot air, doesn't hold air, no pun intended.

The most brilliant thing the Write Brothers did was realize that any airplane needs to have three axis control and airplanes are always inherently unstable. They're more like bicycles than boats.

This has to be the end of the 30's, as the first B-17 didn't fly until 1935, and they weren't made in quantity until 1937. And the Boeing 314 Clipper didn't go into service until 1938.
