My favorite railroad because I grew up on it in my hometown. Too bad they're not here anymore. They were too big to be dissolved. Very sad, they were better ran and more stronger than NS/CSX put together. Conrail should have remained independent into the 2000's.

Conrail still technically exists as a service provider. What's left of the CNJ's Southern Secondary line in New Jersey is run by Conrail. I believe some Michigan trackage is still purely Conrail as well. Any train symbol beginning with SA is still Conrail, SA stands for shared assets. Conrail even still has a website. www.conrail.com

@@PowerTrain611 The SA symbol stands for Sayreville, not Shared Assets. Conrail symbols are formatted for division, then type of train and originating yard, and number. An example would be WPMI-61. WP means Way Freight (while yard jobs would be a Y), the P stands for the Philadelphia division, MI stands for Millville, and the train is numbered 61.

Oh, the good old days! Conrail was the ONLY thing the government ever did that WORKED. I had many friends their. Big Blue was safer than Crash Smash Xplode and Nazi Southern combined. They should have never let Conrail be carved into pieces and maybe some of the recent disasters could have been avoided. Big Blue still survives on my N scale railroad.
